I grew up eating chili over mashed potatoes. I am making dinner for a neighbor who is sick and I was wondering would they think I am wacky if I give them mashed potatoes with their chili? I already have shredded cheese, nachoes and bread.. I want to give the potatoes but I am not sure how common it is.. :lmao:

I've never had the two together, but it does sound like it would be good. I just might try it.

I've had chili and a baked potato, chili and french fries....never mash potatoes, but why not?

we usually had it over macaroni noodles, but over mashed sounds really good!

We've always had ours over rice. DH likes his on bread. Mashed Potatoes and Chili is new to me, but sounds good.

If your neighbor is sick, chili might be a bit too much. Mashed potatoes would be nice and comforting. Maybe with a little chicken (or turkey) and gravy over the top. Yummy food when you are sick.

I called and asked her if she would prefer home made chicken noodle soup vs chili and she chose chili. I was surprised too. I think she is thinking of her DH right now. Whatever makes it easier on her. YOu are right about the chili for her so I will definately give her the mashed potatoes as well. That way if anything she can eat that. I am not sure how much of appetite she has right now anyway.

I agree with a previous poster that for now just the potatoes might be good if they're sick. If it's not a stomach problem then why not. I have had chili over rice but I have some left over mashed potatoes. Gives me an idea for dinner now. Thanks.

Chili does sound good right now. I make mine on the mild side and use kidney beans. Like you said, you can give her both separately and offer the suggestion to try it together.

Hope she feels better. And how nice of you to make her something! :flower3:

She is not sick to her stomach. She is recovering from double macectomy(sp??) and restructure. She is getting around fabulous and you wouldn't know the difference however I am not real close to her so I do not know how she is truly feeling.

I usually make my chili spicey but I made it more mild and tomatoey that I usually do to help that. It came out great.. I saved some for me.. :rotfl:

BTW Chili and Mashed potatoes ROCK.. I make my potatoes on the thick side so they hold the chili sauce better and if you have chunks of potatoes that is OK...Even better.

WHen I do chili and baked potato, I don't put butter on the potato. Something abotu the butter mixing with the chili doesn't jive in my stomach, thus I don't think that mashed potatoes with chili would make my tummy very happy either.

Never had that combination. But I grew up eating chicken and noodles/dumplings over mashed potatoes. Not common but everyone I feed it too loves it. I'd say go for it, you may convert them.

I LOVE mashed potatoes and chili!! You are not weird in the least. It is just the rest of the world;)

I am surprised how uncommon this dish is. It is too yummy.

I've never had chili with mashed potatoes but it sounds yummy!
I've had it over different pastas/noodles and over Frito chips, and now that I think about it a baked potato. So I guess mashed would work too! :goodvibes
