Please say it so!!! Is Disney really changing the child's price/age for dining on 1/2 to 3-9. Who is going to pay $25 for their 10 year old to eat at a buffet???

Where did you hear this? This is news to me. Considering we do a character meal everyday, I would cut back if I had to pay adult prices for my two young children.

It was listed in another post. I hope it isn't happening!

It is I am sorry to say. That was what we were told in our meeting during training. Because with the MYW + Dine the meals will be encoded onto your ticket so they had to change the age because of commonality issues.

Anyone know when this will start? From the previous post, I assume it will be Jan 2nd when MYW starts. No buffets for us with 9 yr old DD for a few years.

Golly....seems like a more reasonable solution would have been to change the child's ticket age to 3-11. Oh well....

What about all the vouchers and such people purchased under the former rules of 3-11 for a kid's VKL, Character Breakfast or Q & C.

This is nuts, my kids eat like birds. My dd eats nothing but potatoes and rolls at the buffet. Paying adult prices for that, no way. Guess we will be severely limiting our buffet meals now. I bet WDW will see a decrease in the number of families who eat the buffets now.

I agree, I think it will cut back on families doing the buffets. My children will be 6 & 7 next year, but when they turn 10, I will also limit my character meals.

That is sad that they are changing it. I agreed that alot of little ones 9 and 10 do not eat enough to warrant this price. My grandson is 10 and we were hoping for one more year of "kids" prices for him. I'm guessing the sit down restraurants will still let him and other kids order from the kids menu. There is no way he would want to eat anything other than pizza & burgers--they will almost have to make exceptions for the same reasons. I often get a child's portion of food at the 50s PT for myself.

I guess I"ll be the lone dissenter. Not that I *want* to pay adult prices, but my DD8 and DS9 - at least now - are eating me out of house and home! A buffet, therefore is a good deal for us because they eat a LOT - especially when we have been walking around in the parks.

Do I want to pay adult prices...no. Will I...if it's at a place we want to eat, then probably. But I probably will cut down on sit down places and hit more counter service.

Yeah, it sucks. Change irritates a lot of people, but I;ll bet for the vast majority of visitors (not us smart cookies on the DIS :-) ), they'll buy the dining package for the convenience and not blink an eye.

I have two teenage girls who tend to eat small portions frequently. They're grazers. We ate at Biergarten in December, and it was horrible to see them try to stuff down food so "Mom would get her money's worth." Mind you, this wasn't under any pressure from me...they just know that in our family every penny does tend to count. Needless to say, I will not be doing a buffet again. Heck, I will probably not even do sit-down again unless the girls agreen to spit a meal! From this mom's point of view, calling a 10-year-old appetite "adult" is really stretching it!

My seven year old eats more than I do. Skinny little thing he is too.

Age is a poor indicator of food consumption at a buffet. I'd guess little kids often have far more plated than dieting teens, while mom tries to find something the child will eat today, even if they don't eat it all.

People will pay $25 for a kid to eat at a buffet. Don't worry about it. If you won't go, there will be plenty of others.

I agree with crisi, it is impossible to judge by age how much they will eat. My DD13 has always been a small eater and has now decided to be a vegan. DD7 lives on fries, burgers, and chicken fingers (almost), but DD11 and DS9 have always been good eaters. They love the variety of a buffet and will eat as much as I do most of the time. I have to admit I don't understand the reasoning for this. We may buy the MYW tickets, but we will never buy the meal plan as we are DVC and eat at least one meal a day in the room. If I am just paying seperately what has this got to do with the new tickets? I guess I may be dim or something.....

Ok this is what I found out today at work in our meeting. The child ages will be 3-9 IF you are on the package MYW+Dine. If you are not on the package it will still be ages 3-11 however your kid will only be able to eat off of the children's menu for that price and EVERY resturaunt on property will have a kids menu. This includes buffets which means that at some buffets they will not get all the offerings only a selected portion. This is how it was explained today however it is still being changed so it may change again.

Well that is really not fair. We plan to eat dinner at CP, but if all DS7 can eat is the chicken nuggets, mac and cheese and pizza, he will be very disappointed. If you are at a buffet and pay $10+ for a child, they should be able to choose from all the offerings.

I just talked to dinning, and was told no, that that wasn't true. She said they would have to hire "guards" to enforce it. If in fact the price will be almost $30 for a 10 year old at Chef Mickey's, or they'll only get the "kids" meals, I'll be cancelling our chef Mickey's meals for the nine of us, as it was bad enough to think about paying that much for pay for the just turned 12 year old, but I sure won't pay it for the 10 and 11 year old who barely eat anything..and I surely won't pay for them to only be able to eat mac and cheese and chicken fingers. Luckily they don't know about Chef Mickey's, and I'll just switch to breakfast with characters at the Grosvener.

That was just what I was told today. Noone can verify anything until all the changes go into effect in January. Disney changes things by the moment so just wait til the final thing is in order before you change anything.

You are so right. When the extended family goes to Disney my 8 year old nephew ate a lot more than my 16 year old niece.

and how are they going to make sure that happens? is someone going to follow the kids around watching each and everything they put on their plates? Will there be a CM "standing gaurd" at each table to make sure a child doesn't come back with something from the "adult buffet"?

I am not flaming you.. just curious as how they are going to make that work.

That is just nuts!

Yeah, I'm going along with others in saying that I would likely eliminate buffets from our next trip if I'm paying adult prices for a 10 year old. I just couldn't justify spending $110 for a buffet for 5 people, with 3 kids not eating alot.

But I can live with avoiding buffets. We would probaly add a few more counter service meals, which helps the budget!
