Children's Dessert portions at TS?

Concerned with my kids eating too many sweets on the upcoming trip. Can you give me an idea of the portion sizes of the kids desserts at TS restaurants. We usually only give our kids special treats occasionally, and in small portions, such as one scoop of ice cream, or small slice of cake or pie.

What else can be purchased as desserts at the counter service restaurants? Can you purchase fruit cups as an alternative, or anything else?

Thanks.

They are large, IMO. We never finished them. If a fruit cup is offered on the menu (even as a side) then you can ask to have that as the dessert. We got fresh fruit for dessert at 50s PT cafe.

They had a fruit cup listed for Mama Melrose when we were there in April and DH got that even though I think it was a child's order.

Thanks. I guess I can always either ask for a smaller portion or a substitution.

The TS desserts were big for my kids but not huge but the kids mainly picked at them liking eating the gummi worm out of the worms and dirt. If it was ice cream it was 1 scoop. The CS desserts were 1 size for adults or kids. Many of those we could choose something portable we did and ate bits later. No fruit for those at most places but they usually have something sugar free if you request it. The kids never waited in line at CS anyway and I never encouraged them to pick a dessert so they never realized they had one in some cases anyway or with a kids meal I told them the applesauce or sugar free jello was dessert. IN our case it worked out fine though they had more servings of desserts than normal it wasn't crazy.

Hmm, two of the TS meals we did were buffet, so dessert was pick your own. One of the others we weren't hungry for dessert so didn't order it. The other the only option was ice cream and I'd say it was a scoop. Dd only picked at it.

For Counter Service they were the same as the adults and big. At Tusker House in the Animal Kingdom they were HUGE. But again, my dd either picked at it or took a few bites and didn't like it. She's not a huge sweets eater, unless it's a popsicle which we had for snacks a few times, but even then she only ate about half.

The Counter Service desserts (at least at the resorts) are easy to avoid. One night I even forgot about them until my sister who reminded me. At our resort we picked them out ourselves and never were we reminded by the cashier to get one if we didn't have it on our tray.

Anyway I think the Counter Service meals are the largest and my be most bothersome to you, but those are easier to avoid. And often after the TS you may be too full to order it anyway. We wouldn't have the one time, but we were eating in France, and that's one place you want to try desserts lol.

Some of the kid's desserts are really neat (like the moose at Le Cellier). THe edible portion isn't huge, but it sure is cute. We were generally too full after meals to do desserts, but occasionally I had them boxed to go back to the room.

Kid's ice cream is one scoop. Cakes, etc. are generally cupcake sized. At TS, they will commonly substitute a fruit cup or something like that for a dessert. Every TS restaurant has sugar free desserts. They are usually on the adult menu, but they will usually serve them to a child if asked. If they won't bring the child an adult sugar free dessert, ask them if the 2 children can split ONE adult sugar free dessert.

At CS, it is more difficult to substitute, but you can always ask. Or you can just skip the dessert.

Thanks for all your comments. We will probably let the kids get the TS desserts, since they do seem really special at the restaurants we have ADR's for. What is the chocolate mousse at LeCellier? We are going there. I assumed it was just chocolate pudding.

We will probably forgo the CS desserts, unless we can get a just a cookie, rice crispie treat or fruit cup. Or we will split the dessert so everyone can take a bite or two.

Yes they are huge!! We shared desserts at the TS. We ended up usually getting like a cookie (to share) and then rice krispy treats to take back with us. We ended up coming home with about 10 rice krispy treats. popcorn:: At TS we told them that they could not eat all of the dessert since they were so big.
