When we were at DQ we let DS (9) and DD (8) go around on their own as long as they stayed together and kept in touch with the walkie talkie and we also let them go into the Swiss Family Tree House on their own while we waited outside. If I am with them and they want to go on any of the rides I don't like I will walk with them to the loading point and once they are safely on go and wait where they get off.

I don't think I'd let them go down to the pool on their own at that age.
