There are several recent threads on austism and ASD just below this one. I'm sure you can find a lot of info, then maybe ask specific questions.

I do want to help but don't know what you are looking for as far as information.

I can tell you what I have done with DS, close to 4 yrs old. We start with a GAC for him and make sure we get his stroller as wheelchair, front of shows and alternative entrance. Sometimes we need to keep him belted into his stroller for his safety and of others. If we go to show he needs to be in front to keep his attention and keep the stimuli going. And then there is the we can't wait very long at all. It goes very very very bad.

I definately need help for eating and carrying trays or even going up to get food. Someone always need to be right next to him.

It can be hard but we love Disney and he seems just like a NT while we are there.

We ride the train first, everytime for about 2 hours before we even think about doing anything else. We do what he wants for the first part of the day and then do more things we want while he naps.

Good luck

Hi and :welcome: to DisBoards and disABILITIES!

If you click on where it says "disABILTIES" at the top of this page it will take you to the Index. The fifth item down is the "disABILTIES FAQ" which will gives lots of useful information, including information about the Guest Assistance Card (GAC) which you definitely would be interested in.

And as Ducklite says, be sure to look at several (at least) of the ASD/Autism/Aspergers threads within this forum. They tend to have lots of good information.

But if you have any specific questions, that aren't answered already, please ask, we'd love to help :goodvibes

I would like to put your mind at ease if possible.... I too have a son (now 11) who has PDD and ADHD and we have been taking him to disney since he was 4 years old. There are of course things that you can use for your son to make his trip more enjoyable...(i,e, GAC etc) Luckily we did just fine. My son is a disney fanatic and even that word does not do him justice. I will tell you that we now own DVC because we have been going every year since he was 4 and to watch his expressions and see his face light up or do something new or say something new or just show sheer joy is something that every parent with an austic child can hope for. Of course you need to deal with each and every thing as it comes up with your child to see what you can do and cannot do (boundaries) Disney is a therapy for our son (and us too) and I must say that we are truly blessed to have these children in our lives. I wish you well and

Enjoy your trip...

We have been traveling to WDW since he was about 16 months old. Definitely get GAC it will help accommodate any needs that he may have; we didn't find out about the GAC until he was 3 yo. Oh my gosh it made our trips so much more enjoyable. Ours is the ability to use the stroller as a wheelchair- very important for us b/c of his low tone it makes it difficult for him to stand in lines and during shows he prefers to sit in his stroller (sensory based). Sometimes we've had to wait double the amount of time but it was worth it for him to stay in the stroller until it was time to ride.

We have to say its our favorite place to vacation with him. He loves it. Last trip he did not want to go on any ride that was inside. We rode Dumbo at least 20 times. Even though we were limited we still had a great vacation and it allowed us to do things we had never --Tom Sawyer Island, tons and tons of character meals (both boys loved them) and character meet and greets, and we spent lots of time in the pool and water playgrounds.

For our trip in August he told us that he's going to be very brave and go on all the rides. I hope so because he is a thrill junkie and once he works through the lights and theming he's going to love it all!!!

Have a great time and definitely read through all the old posts. This board has been so great for us. Everyone here has such good information to share.
