child w/ arm cast

Some friends are traveling to DL in early november and the 5 year old son has a cast on a broken arm. What restrictions will there be. Will he be able to ride the rides, which rides will he not be allowed on.

They are thinking of postponing the trip so any help would be great.

I wouldn't think there would be any restrictions.

On our trip to the parks last week we saw folks in wheel chairs with leg casts transferring to attractions and ride vehicles.
Saw several arm, wrist casts and those folks were all riding just like everyone else.
I think the only restriction would be up to the person with the cast and what would or would not be comfortable for them.

abouit 4-5 years ago we were there with our kids and our youngest at the time ~19 or 20 years old had her knee wrapped and iced from a long term ham string injury...she spent all of the 2nd and 3rd day in a wheel chair with ice and bandages on her knee. We were not denied entry to any ride or attraction.

My 11 year old son broke his collar-bone 4 days before a WDW trip last year. The doctor said it would be a-ok to still go and he was fine. With an arm in a cast, I would just avoid splash mountain or any other ride that you are likely to get wet. By then, his arm shouldn't be so sore and he will be ready to have fun!
Also, I think my son would have felt worse if he didn't get to go than he did wearing a figure 8 brace for his collar bone our entire trip.

If in doubt they should ask the Dr. My daughter had an arm cast (from wrist to below elbow) and she did everything like normal, she even went along the little rock climbing wall in DCA in the Redwood Creek area. They may need to wrap it in a plastic bag when going on a water ride.

My nephew dislocated his shoulder a week before our big DL trip. He was in a sling all week and they let him ride everything.

He did not however get to ride the rides at Knotts berry farm. The Disney rides are more tame so he should be fine though!

Hi Tom! Did your son break his arm or elbow? My oldest just broke her elbow a few weeks ago. She fell off her bike and shattered it in 2 places. Doc said it was the worst he had ever seen. She had surgery and will get her cast off next week (after only 3 weeks of wearing it! ), but just in time for her b-day trip in a few weeks. Hope your little one (assuming he is yours!) is ok!

My wife says he's mine.

His was just his arm.

He was in a cast above his elbow for 4 weeks, then the smaller cast for 3 weeks. He just got that off yesterday and has a brace now.

Wow! I am trying to understand how my DD is going to be ready to get her cast off and pins out after such a short period of time, but I guess that's why they are the doctors and get paid the big bucks!

Oops. I forgot 'one' little fact. Now a days they use "designer" casts. Not like the old white plaster casts I had abt 1000yrs ago.

I read a thread over on the WDW side of the boards (apparently breaking your arm before going to WDW is part of the pre-trip planning) and many people said it wasn't a problem for rides, espcially if it's just a lower arm cast. Of course, I'd get the doctor's OK, but it doesn't sound like Disney has many restrictions.

Several people also mentioned the autographs. I guess you can ask the doctor casting you where they will cut it off and draw a "seam line". Then have the characters sign the cast (light color cast would be best), avoiding the line where they will cut. What a souvenir.

The fact that I synthesized this info means I will probably never need it ... my kids will have some other problem!

Did they have to reset it? That was worse than breaking it! In fact, 4 years later, I broke my arm again and they were going to reset it and my mom was trying to make me feel better so she told me about the "surprise" trip to Disneyland/Knotts we would be taking. I had a cast clear to my armpit and I could ride everything.
