My daughter will be a "child" this year, but an "adult" next year for park hopper purposes. Do I need to buy new passes? Or will Disney exchange or upgrade? Thanks!

(1) Your child can exchange his partly used ticket for an adult ticket with the same remaining days and plusses, at no charge.

(2) If your child is 10 or 11, he might keep using the ticket and probably no one will notice.

(3) For a 5 to 10 day vacation, it is not recommended to use up the remains of old tickets (child or adult) and also buy new tickets for some of the days. The disadvantages can be seen easily by figuring out the cost of all new tickets for the whole vacation and comparing that cost with the cost of new tickets assuming old tickets were also used.

I had read on these boards that they will allow the child to use the ticket even when they are past the age, as long as it's obvious the child could have used the ticket before (like, it couldn't be a really old child's pass that wouldn't correlate to this child).

Anyway, we just got back and my DS (now 10, almost 11 and 5'something) used his old child's pass at every park and Typhoon Lagoon, and no one questioned him! I had an adult pass with me just in case.

We have park hopper passes that I bought 2 years ago. This was when we originally started planning our Disney trip. At the time my youngest was the child age. When I purchased the tickets I was told that they are good for life. I said what if we come down and don't use all of the days? (Like that would happen being our 1st trip). I was told as long as the child was considered a child at the date I bought the passes that's all that mattered. That she could use this pass when she was 30 something if need be. I'm hoping that's correct as we are finally able to go this year! She is 10 which is just above the child age, but she looks more like 12. The kid is going to pass me up one day! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

In the past, Disney has never required that child tickets be upgraded to adult tickets if there are still days left on the ticket and the child now qualifies for an adult ticket. I don't know if they continue to do that with the new system of tickets.

I do know that they charge when they upgrade tickets. You are charged the difference..whether you're upgrading days, options, or "type" of ticket.

If you are saying what I think you are saying, I think someone gave you bad info. The child has to be a child on the first day the tickets were used, not bought. Otherwise everyone would buy them for their children and put them away til they are adults.
If you mean you bought them and the first time used, your child will be a child, then yes, at this time, they are grandfathering that child in to an adult ticket. We had to have our grand with us, so they could ask him his age, they swiped the ticket and saw that he was a child when we started. It wasn't really easy, because they had to give us a ticket for that day in case we hopped (we had already just brought him through the turnstile and went to guest services), and then the remaining days, were given as one day adult pass hoppers, that expired..but not til 2025 or something like that. It's darn nice of them to do, and they could decide not to at any time. Oh, and if you have plusses on the old ones..you lose the pluses :(
