Hello Everyone.. We'll be heading down to HHI for our very first DVC experience in March and another trip in Sept to SSR. Two trips in 1 year :cool1: Anyway, we'll be staying in a 1 bdrm both times and will have our DS 2, closer to 3 in Sept, with us. Was wondering if anyone had any tips or advice regarding "room set-up" to safely accommodate an active, but pretty well behaved 2 year old. Will the oven knobs come off? Is a child gate needed? etc... We're planning on allowing him to sleep in the fold out sofa, but concerned that this would give him access to the kitchen / bathroom. ?? Is this not a good idea? :confused3 Anyway, any advice or tips would be appreciated, haven't stayed in a 1 bdrm yet, but very much looking forward to it.

Though DS is older (ok, 6) I still worry about him waking up and being disoriented in the middle of the night. (Fortuntely, he's outgrown the kitchen as a playground stage).

Since he goes to sleep earlier than us (usually), he'd sleep in the king bed so we could enjoy the living room and balcony. DH slept on the sofa bed most nights.

Have a great trip. (BOTH of them!)

by the time he's 3 you won't need much childproofing.

i know the knobs come off the stoves at VWL, (took them off for my 1 yr old) can't speak for SSR as i've only been in a studio there.

keep the balcony sliding door locked, push the armchair against the connecting door (my 3yr old finds that door irresistable despite being unable to open it).

keep the door bolted and the safety latch on at all times when in the room, my son could open the doors at 2! and that's a heavy door!

i put ds in the king bed then move him to the pullout when we go to bed.

Is the lock on the balcony door easy for small children to undo, or is there some sort of safety bar? :confused3 I'm new to DVC and have the same concerns as the OP.

Thanks!

I would always pack the outlet covers....seems like my little guy would always go for the electrical outlets! :scared:

Here, here... to the outlet covers! We keep a package of them in our suitcase at all times (that way we don't forget) - also the cupboard slides (keeps they from being able to open the cupboards.

Honestly, my wife and I were suprised that the outlets don't all have the permanent covers that slide or turn(it is Disney and all)

Check to make sure the dish detergent is up and away. At OKW it is kept above the counter but at BW it is kept under the sink. DS 1 1/2 found the soap on our first trip. Spent the first 2 nights at OKW and didn't realize BW had it below. Ended up calling Poison control. No problems for him. We did have other issues with our room that caused him to get hurt but they were room specific.
