Didn't really know what to title this...I am struggling with our CG ressie.

I have one child who fits into the "adult" catagory for dining purposes. We looked at the menu together and the only two things she likes are on the kids menu.

O.K., here goes and I know it has probably been asked before... if we pay OOP for her, can she order from the kids menu? Just don't want there to be any surprises when we get there and I hate to waste two adult TS on food she is not going to touch!

TIA for the answer!

Yes.. we had the same thing happen at Le Celier last week. DSis(16) just wasn't that hungry and wasn't interested in anything on the adult menu.
She ordered a kids meal.

It's absolutely fine.

The kids menu is limited to guests under age 10. Many (most) restaurants will let an older child order off the kids menu. A restaurant might charge an adult price, sometimes for an adult size portion. I'm sure CG will find something your child will eat but you won't know how you'll be charged until you get there.

Thanks for the replies! At least I know there is an option. If I have to pay an adult price for the kids meal then so be it. Just want her (and therefore us) to have a pleasant experience.

Every once in awhile, I order a kids meal (grilled cheese) or a happy meal (for the toy) and I am 36  I have never been refused, but I have been teased.

At Citricos they let our DD14 order off the kids menu (the pasta I think). It was no problem and we paid OOP the childs price of the food. We were at CG and she ended up unhappy with her choice (adults menu) so I wish we had done the same there. I wouldnt think it'd be a problem, especially if you are polite about it and explain that it will be OOP etc etc...

Generally, what you want to do is fine. One, albeit unenforced, caveat is that he plan materials state that every guest must use dining plan credits when dining at Signature Restaurants. That said, the time we ate at Brown Derby and the kids were awake and ordered off the kids menu we paid out of pocket, which is what the server asked if we wanted to do.

Last time, just before we left for the vacation In October I wrote to DIsney and asked. They replied that my 11 yo could order from either menu but that I would be expected to pay with the adult credit. She ended up mixing and matching from the adult/children's menu with no problems depending upon her appetite and likes/dislikes. When she ordered from the children's menu at a few places I was asked by the server if I was using the credit or paying OOP, I said the credit of course and found that her kids meal portions seemed to be larger.

We were just at the CG in early December. My 10 year old daughter was with us. The server brought her a children's menu and said even though she was older than the menu "rules" she could order off it if she wanted. She did and we paid out of pocket for her meal and used our adult DDP credit for the others. Of course, we were ALL dining adults and had NO child credits on our cards so there was no question of us using our child credits for our meal.

I had exactly the opposite experience at Tusker House just last week. I had 4 adults (youngest being 10) and no children on the dining plan. My 10 year old wanted to order off the child's menu and was refused. The clerk absolutely insisted she HAD to order off the adult menu because we had only adult credits. I asked why we couldn't just use an adult credit for a child's meal - after all, it's less expensive, so it's to Disney's advantage - and I was told they are "cracking down" and this is no longer allowed.

I've updated the 2007 Dining Plan FAQ to reflect your experience. It isn't clear to me how long things will be this way, but for now, folks are well-service if warned of the possibility.

This example is most closely related to my situation. My "adult" daughter is 10. I will simply ask and see what happens. Either way, I'll let you all know my experience when I return. (We are going in February.) Thanks for all the info!:)

We were there in late October with a 10 and 12 year old who were both given children's menus when we arrived (12 year old was choked). We told the waiter we would only be using credits for the two adults and paid OOP for the kids. No problems at all. In fact, since we ordered wine he used our drink credits for the kids speciality drinks. Needless to say we left a big fat tip
