First and foremost, I am SO sorry you had to endure child abuse. It's a horrid thing and it breaks my heart you had to suffer from it.

I guess the thing to ask would be what the benefit is of making him pay would be and what you intend to seek as that payment. Also, keep in mind that your personal healing will not come from seeking for him to pay, but rather from finding the strength to move on. The ultimate payback is showing that he has no control over your life, letting go, and living life to the fullest. It's a LOT easier said than done, I know. Have you sought counseling from your personal struggles with it? I went through a terrible experience as a teenager and wanted some sort of payback. What I did instead when I was an adult was take a wedding picture of me and my DH and wrote on the back "You no longer control me. No matter what you tried to do, I am a strong woman and live a wonderful life." I left the picture where this experience happened. It was the last time I ever went back...I decided to leave it behind me. It was a freeing moment for me. It's not an experience I will ever forget, but I no longer allow it to have the control it once did.
