We're joining some friends up in Northern Michigan camping for this holiday weekend. We're leaving in the morning. I have chicken breasts defrosting right now & plan to put some in ziploc bags with Italian Dressing in it to marinate. They come out so moist & tender this way! We'll be having this tomorrow evening for dinner. I have some chicken breasts that I just want to bring up plain so that they can have BBQ sauce brushed on it while grilling.

My question is, how do I bring up those plain chicken breasts? Do I just put them in a ziploc with nothing else? I mean, nothing in the bag to keep them moist? I am currently defrosting the chicken in a huge pot of water. If I just rinse them (again) & dump some in a ziploc bag ~ will they be okay to just go right on the grill tomorrow (we'll be keeping them on ice till we get to the campsite & then they can be refridgerated till grilling time)?

What do you suggest?

Yes, you can do that and they will be fine. One suggestion I have is to double bag the ziplocs. Just in case. You really do not want uncooked chicken leakage to contaminate any of your other food, that is why I double them up.

Oh, and another thing, make sure you check them earlier in the day, if they are packed in the cooler with ice. I know we have had things actually freeze in the cooler due to all of the ice...so just check them to make sure they are not frozen.

Have a great time!

I wouldn't even defrost them, stick them, partly frozen in a zip lock with some of the marinate then in the cooler. By tomorrow they will be thawed and still moist and baste as usual with other dressing. Sounds yummy... I usually always leave my meats frozen for camping, helps keep the cooler cool and the meats stay longer.

That is what I usually do too (easier, LOL), but if they are already defrosted it won't make any difference.

I was going to suggest not thawing them myself. If you're not going to cook them until tomorrow, they'll defrost between now and then and you won't risk them drying out. Although I don't suspect that they'll dry out too much anyway.

NO suggestions because I am cooking impaired..BUT a wish to you and your family to have a safe and happy trip and a great weekend!

When I go camping, I leave my meat frozen too. :thumbsup2

Thanks everyone. I have already defrosted them in cold water. Wish I had posted this before I dumped them in a big pot of water to defrost! Makes sense to not even thaw them out now! Live & learn!

Okay, I will double bag the chicken breasts that will be marinated in salad dressing & I will also double bag just the plain jane chicken breasts too. Good thing I just got a huge package of those gallon sized ziplocs since I also have pasta salad to bring up (in a vinegrette dressing), as well as some fresh green beans sauteed in olive oil & freshly minced garlic! Also bringing up some fresh Brats & a Sam's Club b-day cake as we'll be celebrating 4 b-days up there.

Pinnie ~ so nice to see you! We'll be going up to Port Austin this weekend. Hope to get to Caseville to do some shopping & a few of the neighboring lake communities. We'll be staying at a hotel in Bad Axe while our friends will be in their 35 ft trailer with slide outs! So we'll just spend the day with them & enjoy the evening bonfires & make smores & the kids will have sparklers to enjoy...then we'll get to enjoy our comfy king sized bed & nice shower in the morning at our hotel! To me, staying in a hotel is the most 'camping' I'll do!

Thanks for all the suggestions & hoping you all have a wonderful (& safe) 4th!
