I'm certainly not trying to tell anyone what they should do, but I am the mother of the child in the above link. My DD 12 was in the hospital 9 days and she missed a whole month of school with chicken pox.
Don't ever think that there are not complications with chicken pox. I had never known anyone who had a serious reaction before, but my DD's was a big one. She had to learn to walk all over again using a walker. We almost had to come home with an IV - they were concerned that the infection had spread to the bone, but it hadn't.
There are risks with shots, but there are risks with childhood illnesses, too. We could have lost our daughter. I'd give anything to turn back time and get the shot. We were very afraid and so were the doctors (we had a group of 5 doctors and some physical therapists).
