We moved away from any restaurants that serve Chicken Fried Steak and when I make it, I make a total mess. Anybody know of any Chicken Fried Steak in the Disney area? Not breaded cutlets, real batter dipped beef fried and served with cream gravy and mashed potatoes. Even offsite restaurants would be fine.

Cracker Barrel's is pretty good. Have only had it for breakfast, though, so with eggs and grits, not mashed potatoes. I believe the closest one to WDW is at the junction of I-4 and 192.

Cracker Barrel is probably the closest place, there are two of them on Hwy 192 (Irlo Bronson). If you google it, there is another place called Dixie Belle's Café that serves country fried steak.
I've had the one from Cracker Barrel, it is pretty good.

Yeah, I've eaten at Cracker Barrel and we have them here. Not a big fan of the place. I guess I'll just make it at home and make a huge mess.

Country fried steak isn't chicken fried steak. Country fried is usually breaded and fried and maybe brown gravy. Chicken fried is battered (flour, beaten egg and milk and again flour) and cream gravy.

Cracker Barrel uses frozen patties - not a fan.

The closest we've found is Texas Roadhouse. It tastes as close as we get back home (Texas) and just about our only option here in FL ;) There is one not far from the parks that we visit frequently on day trips to WDW. Their cream gravy is usually pretty darn good!

Not a fan of Cracker Barrel's or Bob Evan's version of "country fried steak". Both use a frozen, pre-battered patty. If I want that, I can buy the Tyson's patties at Wal-Mart and make them at home in the microwave.

I prefer a real chicken fried steak, which is mechanically tenderized cube steak, slathered with chicken breading, deep fried, and covered in pepper gravy. The best versions I've had at chain restaurants were at Chili's (sadly, no longer on the menu), and Texas Roadhouse.

It's been several years, but DH got chicken fried steak at TRex a while back. Not the best pics, but it'll give you an idea. They also brought us extra gravy. I think the one below was one of three they brought us...communication signals crossed and everyone started bringing us gravy! :rotfl2:I don't see it on their current menu, but you could always inquire to find out if they'll make it. DH is not a fan of Cracker Barrel's, so I can't recommend that.

Throw me on the Texas Roadhouse bandwagon ... that's the only chain place I've gotten a decent chicken fried steak, and it was pretty darn good!

That is my hubbys fave meal and he use to love the one at Trex.
I think Chillis has it and maybe OCharleys? Also check the menu for Longhorns..

Yea I have to make it for hubby myself atleast once a month... my secret is I soak the meat in milk over night then drain and season and bread put back in fridge for the day and then take it out about an hour before you fry it so it comes to room temp. You should cook all meat that way apparently..
Its extra work but I will admit its darn good!

I've seen pictures of one at Olivias at Old Key West. Never tried it but maybe some one will chime in whether it's good or not. (I'd like to order it next time we go!)

I had no idea it was served here!

We are staying at OKW in December and if this is on the menu I already knwo what I will be eating. My DSIL is already complaining that I have held out on him when I planned meals for our DIsney trips! LOL! Yes, we hit resorts for dinner Jeff, but I dd not intentionally skip Olivia's just to keep you from eating good food! LOL!!

Uh why would you move so far from chicken fried goodness?!
We moved to the SW Florida Gulf Coast. We're 1.5 miles from the beach.

Olivia's has Southernmost Buttermilk Chicken, not Chicken Fried Steak. Big difference. But the SBC is wonderful. They don't have Chicken Fried Steak.
