Every summer I indulge in my guilty pleasure of "chick lit" I just don't seem to have the time the rest of the year. So as I pick up my 1st book of the season One Fifth Avenue by Candace Bushnell I'd like suggestions to fill up my summer reading list. Bueller?? :coffee:

I am reading Richard Paul Evans The Walk. It is the first book in a new series. :thumbsup2

Jen Lancaster is hilarious!!! I can't help but laugh out loud when I'm reading her books!!

Janet Evanovich has the Stephanie Plum books, which are also very funny!!

I like Alexander McCall smith's No 1 ladies detective agency books too, not chit lit, but I think they are more geared towards a female reader.

Anything by Emily Giffen would fit the bill, I love her books.

Madeleine Wickham would also be a good pick, this is the other name Sophie Kinsella (Confessions of a Shopaholic) writes under

Cecelia Ahern and Sheila O'Flanagan have some great chick lit as well.

Lauren Willig -Secrets of the Pink Carnation series. It's a fun and slightly anachronistic take on the Scarlet Pimpernel.

right now I'm reading Moonshine by Victoria Clayton which I really like.

Or you could try:

Helen Fielding - Olivia Joules and the Case of the Overactive Imagination (or something like that) and of course Bridget Jones or Cause Celeb

Alexandra Potter - Me and Mr. Darcy, Who's that Girl? She surprised me by being quite readable.
Marian Keyes - she has lots of books out. They are chick lit but have a bit more weight to them I find, especially her last one "This Charming Man"

and then of course there's always Sophie Kinsella, if you haven't already read her.

Or if you like something a little bit more period I highly recommend Georgette Heyer. She also wrote about a dozen murder mystery books in the style of Agatha Christie, that are also quite good.

US Fans of Emily Giffin, Jen Lancaster, Jennifer Wiener etc would probably love British Author Jill Mansell. In my next life I'm going to be a British Chick.

Right now I really would love to buy Julie Compton's Rescuing Olivia but I've been holding off due to the price. I'll probably serach it out on inter-library loan soon.

Emily Giffin just released a book - Heart of the Matter, I haven't read it though so I can't say if it is good.

Lauren Weisberger's The Devil Wears Prada is one of my all-time favorite chick lit books.

I love a lot of these authors, but my FAV chick lit author is Jane Green! :thumbsup2

I love summertime reading, looking forward to it after state boards! :goodvibes

Mary Kay Andrews writes fun chick lit: Savannah Blues, Savannah Breeze, Blue Christmas, and some others.

Also, the Sarah Addison Allen books - Garden Spells, The Sugar Queen, and her new one is The Girl Who Chased the Moon. All great.

Guess I should have mentioned that I've read all the books by:

Jennifer Weiner
Sophie Kinsella
jane green
Lauren Weisberger
Candace Bushnell (save the one i'm reading)
Ann Brashares
Alice Sebold (not exactly chick lit but good)
Elizabeth Gilbert
Emily Griffin

Good to know about the pen name and I agree I love Emily Griffen too!

high fidelity is a great movie!:happytv:

I just started The Year of Living Famously by Laura Caldwell and am enjoying it so far! :goodvibes

I also like Phillipa Gregory (don't know if that technically qualifies as chick lit!) and Marian Keyes.

Mary Kay Andrews writes fun chick lit: Savannah Blues, Savannah Breeze, Blue Christmas, and some others.

Have to second this one. LOOOOOOVE Mary Kay Andrews. I started out with Hissy Fit and have bought all her other novels (others include "Deep Dish" and "Fixer Upper") based on how much I loved that one. It's Southern chick lit and is incredibly entertaining. Once I pick up one of her books, I can't put it down.

I just read Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver. It is a "teen" book but it was amazing!!! great story.

I second the Sookei Stackhouse books, they are great. I am just starting the fourth one in the series.

Again Sophie Kinsella is great. My favorite by her is "Can You Keep a Secret?"

Ann Brahares is a good one as well. Her adult novel "The Last Summer (Of You and Me)" is really good. I reread it all the time.

"The Bachelorette Party" by Karen McCullah Lutz is a good one and is soooo funny. I still die laughing everythime I read it.
