I'll be visiting downtown Chicago with my son (going to Wrigley Field) so we need something to do before an after the event. Here's our schedule:

Arrive at Union Station around 11:00am
Free time 11:00 - 2:00
Wrigley Field 2:00 - 3:00
Free time 3:00 -5:30

What can we do that will (1) require easy, public transportation (2) be fun for a 4-year-old and (3) not cost millions of dollars?

What about the Lincoln Park Zoo? It is free and easy to get to on the city buses. I think the #151 will go from Union Station to near by the zoo. Also on Michigan Avenue there is the free park with the Bean sculpture and a very cool wading pool/fountains. Again #151 bus will take you right by it. There is also a Lego store on Michigan Avenue and it does not cost anything to just look at all their stuff.
