Chicago, New York, Silicon Valley

Boston.

Have only been there 3 times, but I fell in love with it during my first visit. It has so much charm and personality and history.

So many great restaurants and eateries.

I'm not a commuter person. Some people can do it. I'm not one...at all. The suburbs weren't very healthy for me - emotionally.

I can afford Chicago. What pulls you to it?
Nothing pulls me to it really. We're actually considering getting out of IL. It's just the best of the 3 cities you asked about. The climate is nice and its less congested than New York and Silicon Valley. IL is bankrupt though so it's not the best time to move here. I have family in CA and in the NY area and you couldn't pay me enough to move to either of those places.

My niece is currently living in NYC, Central Park west. She is in her late 20's and has roommates, and loves it. She's an event planner for National Geographic, plus teaches at a rowing exercise studio (graduated from Georgetown, biology major, go figure). Dd16 is pretty well traveled for her age, has been to NYC (many times, 10 miles away), Chicago, Boston, DC, Anaheim, Glasgow, Dublin, Belfast, Killarney, Edinburgh, and London. She would move to London in a heartbeat, by far her favorite.

Of the three, I have only been to NYC once, and I liked it, but I wouldn't want to live there. There were so many things to do, which I loved, but that was about it for me. I think I am just not a city person. Too many people, too crowded, dealing with public transportation--just not for me.

You have mentioned before that you have a good-sized house of your own. If you move, will you still be able to have that (obviously not the same house)? Having to live in an apartment would be an absolute deal breaker for me. We lived in a townhouse for the first year of our marriage, and that was enough for me. I need my own space, plenty of it, and not share walls, ceilings or floors with anyone else's space.

I don't mean to be negative, just something I wondered about.

I really don't like having such a big house for just me and the cat. I mean, one of the spare bathrooms gets dusted more than cleaned its used so little - same thing with 2 of the spare bedrooms and I haven't been into my loft (disconnected through the garage) in months because those stairs are steep! I just want a 2 bed/2 bath place.

Those are good things to bring up. I want to think about all possible issues for sure! No place is unicorns and rainbows. I mean, I love Nashville, but "outside" isn't loving me anymore.

BROOKLYN, BROOKLYN

I grew up here, lived here most of my life and raised my son here. New York will always be at the top of my list.

I just wish we could just do something about the damn gentrification in Brooklyn.

I LOVE Brooklyn. Its not that different from my current neighborhood, which I love, just more people and better bagels:)

OMG, what I would do for a good bagel with a schmear! DH and I are going back for a few days to visit NYC in November, I have about a 3 page list of stuff to do, and I am pretty proud of the restraint that I have shown by only putting 'eat amazing bagels' on the list 6 times. All I know is that this will be the culinary focus of each morning, and potentially an afternoon snack too.
