Chicago Information?

I took this from the website.

What is the dress attire?
Dinner Cruises:
Jackets are strongly recommended for men and cocktail attire for women.

Lunch, Brunch or Midday Cruises:
We recommend dressy-casual attire, such as nice slacks and collared shirts.

No jeans, shorts, sneakers, tank tops, or halter tops will be allowed.

Remember, this is for the Odyssey. The other boat-Mystic something-is different. They say casual attire.

Are you thinking of the Odyssey or the other one?

:D

The Mickey statue tour will be on State Street during your stay!

I really didn't look that closely at the attire, and I'm not sure of the name of the boat. I think the cost was around $38 a person.

How cool is that!!! Thanks for sharing with me. I didn't get to look at them as closely as I would have liked to when we were in Florida. My husband will be thrilled

You've gotten a lot of great information here.

If you don't want to dress up too much, I think the House of Blues still has a brunch you might like.

One of our favorite things to do in the summer is the Wendella boat rides. You start off on the Chicago river, then go through the locks to get to Lake Michigan. Many people don't know that the river is much lower than the lake so it is really cool the first time you go through the locks. I believe they still have an architectural boat tour that is wonderful.

Thanks. I think we decided against the boat brunch. So, maybe the House of Blues would be a good thing. Can you tell me anymore about it?

Also, I think we are going to just do the boat ride around the lake and river. That will be nice. That way we can budget in a carriage ride. I've always wanted to do one of those. Of course, I'll have to find a romantic guy to go with me :)

Madi100,

I walked by there last night on my way to the train to refresh my memory of what's around there - two great restaurants - Berghoffs for German/American, and the Italian Village, but there is also a Red Line subway stop out the front door - you could jump on that a go a few stops north to Grand Ave. or Chicago Ave. and be right in the middle of all the River North/Gold Coast action. Let me know if you need any specifics - it's an easy detour for me.

Thanks for that offer. That's very nice of you!! I still have about a month and a half. I know that we want to eat at Rainforest Cafe. As much as it seems to be an unfavorite around here, we love it. I just want one more place to eat either Friday or Saturday night. Friday will be our anniversary, so it might be fun to do something a little different that night. We just aren't fancy people, though. We feel out of place.

I just wanted to make a couple of recommendations for steak dinner, if you like that sort of thing.

We used to go to Miller's on Wabash all the time. But since I went during business hours, I'm not sure if you need to "dress up" in the evening.

Also, we recently discovered Weber Grill. We think the food is awesome - all prepared on huge Weber Grills! And you can go in jeans if you'd like. Not as close to the Palmer House - It's at State & Grand.

Thanks for the recommendations!!! We don't necessarily have to be close to the hotel. I'm sure we will venture out a little ways. We can always take a cab too. Do you happen to know if there is a Ben and Jerry's around? We don't have one of those in Iowa, and we love Ben and Jerry's ice-cream!!

TWO WORDS FOR FUN FOOD -

ED DEBEVIC'S!!!!!!

http://www.azeats.com/EdDebevics/

It's casual and fun and the food is great. Reminds us a bit of 50's Prime Time but more fun and not as harsh.

We were downtown this weekend and we parked in the lot by the Palmer House and the lot is $24. DH said you probably wouldn't find one for less and since it's with the hotel it's even better. After you have parked and go down to the lobby of the parking garage it's right across the street from the PH. And it's a block off of Michigan Ave (across from where they are building Millenium Park) and north of the Art Institute. Buses were stopping constantly at the corner on Michigan. I use the buses whenever I go in and they do work great. I believe they went up in price but I don't remember. If they didn't it's $1.75 I think. I always get a card with money on it and use that (you can get the cards at Navy Pier and the train stations).

Hope this helps some more. Just thought about Eds. Up by Rainforest is also Hard Rock and the Rock and Roll McDonald's (fun to go in and see the inside).

Italian Village is awesome food!!!!! And it's casual.

Ed Debevics is a Chicago classic.
