What about staying in willowbrook and driving to the red line? It looks like its 20 minutes to midway airport from there and the line originates there?

Midway airport is on the Orange Line. They would have to change at Roosevelt and take the Green Line which is a little closer to the arena than the Red Line. If they do that, they should be prepared to go through some unsavory areas on the train. The train itself is OK, but at night I would sit in the first car with the conductor just to be sure. The Midway station and the Roosevelt station are both very safe. I'm not 100% sure about the Cermak-McCormick Place station at night, but it should be fine during the day. If they feel uncomfortable at that stop on the way in, they can always Uber to the Roosevelt CTA station when they go home.
