Chicago help - Wrigley field

Dh & ds are headed to a Cubs game in July. Need some help with what areas to stay in with good access to transit to the game. They are going to a game in Detroit the night before and getting up early to catch a game at Wrigley the next day.

There's a elevated railway ("El") stop maybe two blocks from Wrigley Field, so wherever you stay, if you're in the city, just hop on the El! Take the Red Line to Addison.

When we stay in Chicago, we stay in the River North entertainment district. Specifically the Best Western River North at the intersection of Ohio and Clark. It shares an intersection with a 2-story McDonald's, Rain Forest Cafe, Hard Rock Cafe, Portillo's, and other restaurants. It's just a few blocks from Michigan Avenue as well. This hotel is less expensive than many others in the area but still clean and comfortable. They used to have free parking, but now require a fee (although still less expensive than other hotels). The hotel is 2 blocks from the EL's Red Line at State & Grant. There are other hotels in this area as well.

Just hop on the EL's Red Line (sign will state to "Howard" street, the last stop for the Red Line that heads in the direction towards Wrigley Field) The Addison stop is about a block or so from Wrigley. You can purchase a CTA day pass for $10 once you enter the station. After the game, the EL can be crowded, but I have found that the line to take the EL moves pretty quickly.

If they aren't staying in a hotel, there is the Grand Plaza parking garage directly across from the EL's entrance at State & Grand... and other parking garages in that area as well.

Staying on State Street near the intersection of Ohio gives a lot of hotel options, and puts you right on the red line.
