Chicago Help for Spring Break

We are considering a trip to Chicago for spring break the 3rd week in March to take 9 yr old son to Lego Discovery. Can be there anywhere from 2-4 days. What other things are doable with a 22 month old in tow? Also where do you recommend staying that is reasonably priced? Also what will the weather be like at that time? Are there other things to consider - is transportation expensive?

Legoland is in Schaumburg which is about 40 minutes from Chicago, this is also our spring break plan this year. We have never stayed before but I was looking into staying at Hyatt Place, they were running a special for $76 and I missed it! It is now $114, I will keep watching and try to snag a deal or look for something else. We plan to drive downtown the next day to go to the Shedd Aquarium, there is also The Museum of Science and Indusrty, The Field Museum, and The Art Intstitute, just depends on what you like. We like to shop and the Woodfield mall right in Schaumburg is nice. Navy Pier, but Iam not sure what there is to do in the winter because we have never been.
Right now it is very cold and snowy and sometimes it is no better in March, yet sometimes we get lucky with a few 60 plus days. Hopefully someone who has been more recently will be more help.

So are you staying near Lego and driving into Chicago? We are from Indiana too. What part? We are near Louisville, KY. Are you driving to Chicago? We were considering flying since it is so cheap but then would not have a vehicle for transportation. I think if you stay downtown you do not need a vehicle but then I dont know how we would get to Lego Discovery. Have you heard much about Lego? The reviews are very mixed on tripadvisor so I wonder if it is worth it. Any idea?

JMO... but if I was coming for just 2-4 days, would skip Legoland because there is so much to do in the city that there really isn't a big need to drive out into the suburbs.

Your DS9 may be bored at the Legoland Discovery Center. You should look carefully at their website to see their attractions. The dragon ride just goes around different castle rooms where the displays are made entirely of Lego. The other ride is just a basic carnival-type ride. I think it's better for younger children (if you go during the week, many daycares go there for field trips). My boys are 8 and 6. We have annual passes because I got them for the price of regular admission. We go there occasionally but only spend about an hour there. The only thing that we haven't done that I think my boys would love is the model builder's workshop. Since I always have DD2 in tow, it's just not possible.
You would probably have a lot more fun checking out the great museums downtown!

If the weather is nice, with a 22 month old I would recommend Lincoln Park zoo. I believe the zoo is free but parking is expensive. Maybe someone from Chicago can chime in on this. When my girls were little and we went to Chicago they also liked Oak Street beach. It is cool to walk along the beach and see the city skyline right there.
