After two bad storms in a row, how did everyone fare?

At my house a huge tree down in our back yard, a tree is down blocking our alley too.

Stadium operations locked the fans in to Wrigley field for their own safety for a time at the height of the storm. The city turned the tornado sirens. Not fun.

How bad was it in your neck of the woods?

I just tried to call my Mom in Chgo, haven't reached her yet. Hoping all is ok. We saw the pictures from Wrigley on our local news this morning.

It was not fun. Worst storm of the season so far, but I knew it was coming. The air was so thick you could cut it with a knife. Here we are again this morning, out southwest of the city, getting whacked with another round of storms. I'm on line checking my train schedule (I'm going to be late to work today, no doubt) and I thought I would stop in to see if other Chicago DIS'ers were hanging in there.

The sirens were going off and on for about an hour last night. It was like run downstairs, run back up, run downstairs, run back up and then back down again. I definitely got some exercise. It finally died down around 9:00 p.m. We got another round at about 2:00 a.m. and now we are getting hit again. What am I doing on this computer??

weather is weird these days...
as i posted earlier, when i was visiting my mom in june in suburban detroit, her house was hit by a tornado...multiple tornados hit the area at the same time...
they only turned on the tornado siren 10 minutes after most of them hit (10 minutes after the tornado hit us)..

it was very scary...although i've seen lots of tornados over the years, this was the first time i was in one.....since we had no warning, we weren't down in the basement when it hit....it was on us before we realized it...
my mom's neighbors saw it approaching from the lake, and they took cover, but i only noticed it when it was on us...

thank god we were ok....my mom's house was damaged but we came out ok, so that's all that matters....
we were actually trapped in the house for 24 hours until they finally got us out.....it was scary....but all's well that ends well...

I HATE this weather...

Was woken up this morning here in Indy at about 4:30am-ish with thunder and lightning. Lost cable at our house after the initial storm passed. Headed out to work and the heavens opened up and the lightning was so bright and so close and the thunder was so loud that the hair on my arms was standing on end!

And now the skies are so dark again...it looks like it's about 9:00pm at night!

Did I mention how much I HATE this weather?

I HATE this weather...

Was woken up this morning here in Indy at about 4:30am-ish with thunder and lightning. Lost cable at our house after the initial storm passed. Headed out to work and the heavens opened up and the lightning was so bright and so close and the thunder was so loud that the hair on my arms was standing on end!

And now the skies are so dark again...it looks like it's about 9:00pm at night!

Did I mention how much I HATE this weather?

Same thing happened to us. Woke up at 4:30 due to the storms. The lightening is the worst part of it. I've never seen lightening as violant as I've seen this year.

It was pretty rough last night, sirens went off, even down at Wrigley Field. The lighting was intense, it was almost like the sun was out for an hour with all of the lighting. Never saw it that bad before. The beagle was glued to me last night, almost pushed me off the bed once!

We did have 3.25" rain yesterday, right after I put down the fertilizer on the grass. I think I am going to need some more bags to put the clippings in this week.

Us too here... woken up at the crack of dawn with the mutha-storms. It was a bear getting down to work with all of this rain... street flooding...

I do have a beautiful view of the coming apocolypse though here on the 6th floor of the Emmis building on the circle... panoramic view of this nasty storm. Doesn't look like it's going to let up any time soon.

When I finally turned the news on at 5:30am, they said that at least 3 homes were on fire due to lightning strikes. That's what scares me...

Hi we were at Wrigley last night, it was surreal. We have a son who is a fireman in the western suburbs, and he kept calling us saying to get out of the stadium the storm was bad. I noticed the rooftops across the street started to clear off and that is when they made an announcement to evacuate the park. I thought it would disapate before it hit the city. We did go underneath the stadium with everyone else. It was a little scary to hear the sirens going off. Everyone remained pretty calm, I felt bad for the children they were scared. The rain was swirling around like little tornadoes. The wind was very strong. The strangest thing was the lightening, after it would strike it would hang there and flash and it was very vivid. We made it to our car and the drive home was awful. Power lines were down and trees all over. Some streets were flooded. You had to be so careful when you hit areas with no power to make sure that the street was clear to travel through. We are lucky no damage to our home. I am sorry to all who do have damage.

It wasn't bad for us here (Arlington Heights)... but the lightning was CRAZY
At times during the night, the lightning was in such quick succession that it was constantly light out, which was kinda creepy.
But we never lost power, no trees were downed (well, some branches, but that was it), and most incredibly our 17 month old son slept through it all

My cousins and aunt and uncle were there too! We are so glad they got home safely. you too. This year has been pretty crazy for storms

We had tornado warning and they told us to go to the basement (I live in Carol Stream--western suburb of Chicago). They say one touched down in Elmhurst which is about 20 minutes from us. We did not lose power at my house, but our neighbors five houses to the left and five houses to the right did and they were told it would be 2 or 3 days before it was restored. Our oldest son went out this morninig and said there were a lot of trees down in Bloomingdale and Wheaton...our closest neighbors.

I was pretty freaked out by the lightning strikes. It seemed very unusual to have that much lightning. My sister called to say there were tornado warnings, but when I turned on the Weather Channel, it seemed that they were for areas not that close.

It was a miracle that the power stayed on. Our block usually loses power in storms of that ferocity.

It was pretty scary man... like you said, it looked like it was about 9 p.m. and the lightning was way too bright. I swear it was about to hit the towers...but then I realized, it was probably 10s of miles away.

Thankfully it's calmed down now, but I heard we might get hit again. This summer, I've seen entirely too many bad storms. Bring on fall!

We're praying for everyone in Chicago/Michiana. We've got some friends that were hit hard with tree damage last night...yikes.
