Chef's Wine Tasting Counter: are kids welcome?

My wife and I are super-excited to have booked ADRs for the Chef's Tasting Counter at the Flying Fish for this summer! But the Disney reservation "specialist" I spoke to didn't have the answer to this question:

Can our 17 year old son join us at the tasting counter but order off the regular menu?

We've prepaid for our two prix-fixe meals to reserve our seats, but there's absolutely no point in spending the big(ger) bucks on a third seat for our son when he wouldn't enjoy the multi-course meal, nor be able to drink the wine. Surely this kind of thing must happen all the time at Disney so I'd expect the restaurant to be accommodating... but I'd hate to show up for our reservation only to be dinged $150 for my son's fish and chips!:fish:

Reservations at the chefs table are open to those 10 and up. The seating is limited, so I would expect to pay the full price for anyone seated there.

I have a friend who dined w her DD and DSIL. She does not drink and paid the lower amount but did not have different menu optin

Can ho eat solo that night?

Thanks for the replies, Supersnoop and Pumbaa! Certainly, making it a date night and having our son go solo is a possibility - but that option is a last resort for us. This is a family vacation and I'd rather book elsewhere and keep us together than have to split up, even though our tastes may not match on this one meal.

I'll call the restaurant directly tomorrow and see if I can find out their actual policy on our situation and get back to you. Still, I find it hard to believe that this question is so uncommon that the reservations cast member wasn't able to answer it over the phone. Yet another long distance call...

Well, an update: Not only did the reservations specialist not know the policy about kids at the Chef's counter, but he provided me with the wrong telephone number for the Flying Fish Cafe! What I got instead was the "large party hotline" for the same restaurant. Left a message anyway outlining my question and asking for a return call. 48 hours later, still no answer. I have since found the correct phone number online but the restaurant is only open after 5:30PM. Who knew that it would take four days and five long distance calls (so far) to answer one simple question?

Burger King is looking pretty good at this point...
