What are your opinions/experiences at Chefs de France? I just made an ADR for 4 adults and I'm concerned that the menu is a bit too french for picky eaters? I haven't seen anything lately but I do remember positive posts about this restaurant which is why I went with it. Is there good seating to watch illuminations? our ADR is at 6:40pm.

You will find good and bad reviews of almost anywhere. If you like French style food, it is fine. If you have picky eaters, hard to say. Keep an eye on the menus here, on AllEars. And IMO there is no restaurant with adequate view of Illuminations (upstairs in Japan, I think it's a bar, is okay; upstairs France in Bistro if you are on the right window, you may see a little), you have to go outside to hear the music, get the full effect. FWIW.

I really like it - and I've taken picky eaters there before.

If you read the description of some of the meals, you'll see that most of it is not exotic - just fancy names and descriptions! =) The lady at the table next to me two trips ago was eating a hamburger; they might still have that on the menu.

You won't be able to see IllumiNations from there. It's not up against the water so the pathway between the restaurant and water will be packed with people and you'll be sitting behind them. You might see high fireworks but a lot of IllumiNations is near water level and you'll miss it.

I'd recommend dining prior and watchng from around the lagoon.

Chef's de France was the only restaurant in Epcot that I had never tried (beside Bistro de Paris). I wasn't sure I would like French food and my family always refused to try it. I finally tried it a couple of years ago, just so I could say I had eaten at every TS restuarant in Epcot. I was pleasantly suprised. It was one of the best meals of the trip. I was solo that trip. I ate there again solo a few months later and again had a fantastic meal. Last Sept during the free dining period, I booked it, without telling my husband. I didn't tell him until the day of the ADR. He was not happy and told me he would go, but had no intentions of eating and would get a CS after I ate. Since we were on the free dining plan, he rather hesitantly ordered the cheese plate, tiger shrimp and scallops, and a chocolate/banana/coconut tart. He ate every bite, plus grabbed some of my charcuteries appetizer. I laughed at him throughout the meal and reminded him how he had said he wouldn't eat French food. We are going back in about 20 days and he asked me about a month ago if I had made reservations at "that good French place".

Give it a go! It was a wonderful dinner for us. The kids enjoyed it too!

We loved it! Took our DD8 with us, she is very picky, but she tried a little of everything and really enjoyed it! I wasn't sure I would enjoy it but it was great! One thing, we tried to time it so we could see Illuminations while we were eating, it didn't work out. Better off watching outside.

Escargot is amazing! Chicken is really good for picky eaters too. Escargot not so much

The menu may sound fancy shmancy when you read through it but like the pp said, the dishes are actually pretty familiar. You have roasted chicken with mashed potatoes, beef ribs that are cooked in a way a pot roast would be, they even offer a burger there.
Give it a chance, I'm sure everyone will find something they will love!

We loved it! It was one of the places I wanted to book originally for our spring trip but DH vetoed it. Well when we were at WDW he nixed Y&Y and got in at Chefs, he LOVED it! Great bacon and onion flat bread, salad, onion soup, the mac and cheese was to die for and the roasted chicken was amazing

Chefs de France is just fine, but if you are looking for someplace with a view of Illuminations, you could make an attempt at Rose & Crown patio seating.

I am a picky eater and I loved it! The french onion soup is awesome and my DH loved the lobster bisque. He had the salmon and I had the beef tenderloin which to me aren't anything outrageous. Both were very good. I would definitely recommend it. However, I was not impressed with dessert which was sort of a downer considering it's France!

I'm ever amazed at people who have nevr tried "french cooking" and yet refuse to eat in a restaurant where they could try it. I mean, seriously ... french cooking styles are the basis of much of what we consider standard American restaurant food. I know the snails get a lot of play, but do people seriously think that they'll be tied down and forced to eat snails if they go to a french restaurant? Anybody ever hear of Coq a Vin? You know ... chicken in wine sauce?

We had lunch there about a week ago and absolutely loved it. Service was great and food was delicious. We will return!

firstly ... with Illuminations at 9:00 an ADR for 6:45 makes the question about seeing Illuminations from there not really relevant. Rose & Crown Illuminations ADR's are normally 7:45 onward. With as popular as Chef's is I doubt they would let you "linger" 2+ hrs.


Second, Our family was not impressed with Chefs. Had nothing to do with the food. It was crowded and noisy. Our table was less than a foot away from a table with whining, cranky children who would not sit still. I was continually jostled by them. We were so happy when they finished and left. And then the next family to be seated there had whining, cranky children who were picky eaters. The waiters were rushing people along, since the place was fully booked with ADR's that night, and the mob waiting at the door just kept growing.

We've done early lunch there and it was quite enjoyable. So we will skip dinner there in the future.

I took the ultimate picky eater, my DD. She doesn't like any fruit, very few vegetables, no sauces of any kind, won't eat beef, only likes one type of soup etc. etc. etc.

Imagine my surprise when she loved Chefs de France, she even had a dish with sauce and it passed muster!

The food is semi-french as are all the menus at Epcot, none of them serve what you would get in that particular country, it is still Westernized for our tastes.

They have a mac and cheese that is pretty normal and not bad.

I like it there. I like the wine list and talking to the French waiters. They are always willing to talk about where they are fun and are very nice.

I'm also a fan of Chefs de France, and if anything, I would say the food is not "French" enough. There are plenty of safe options for picky eaters, and they are good about substituting items. I've eaten there a few times and always had a good meal. I most enjoy the atmosphere and, of course, the French waiters!
