I know both get mixed reviews but I'm thinking or trying either one since I've eaten at most of the other countries in EPCOT? There is something on both menus I would eat so either is an option right now.

thanks!

Chefs, I am in the group that did not care for San Angel. I had to try it for myself and we went in December 2008 and I just didnt care for it at all. Honestly it and Mama Melrose are the only 2 places at Disney I have ever said I could care less if I ever go back.

I haven't been to Chefs De France but I went to San Angel last August and I thought it was "ok". I didn't mind the darkness or the tight quarters. But I felt like I was rushed. The waiter was friendly enough but he seemed like he just wanted to get us fed and out ASAP, which I understand as a waitress myself with a long wait behind us, but still. It was our last dinner of the trip and I wanted us to be able to take our time. But yeah, it was "ok".

I've been to San Angel a few times, and the food has always been lacking, dry, and flavorless. I went b/c the friends/family that I was with wanted to eat there, but I can't see myself ever eating there again. I'd definitely choose Chefs (or our fave- Biergarten) over San Angel. (BTW, just like PP: this is the only Disney restaurant that I've ever disliked.)

I enjoyed SAI, but it's been a while since we ate there. I hope to return soon. LCdF is our favorite Epcot restaurant out of the seven we've tried. We eat there fairly often, & like everything we've tried.

I have to stand up in defense San Angel Inn. Anyone who's taken the boat ride and remembers the sight of flickering candles against the night sky, the smell of tasty Mexican food, and wishing you were sitting at one of those tables when 'sailing' past the restaurant area, will understand.

Plus, the Chefs de France menu has become quite Americanized over the years. I mean, c'mon- a 1/2 lb. hamburger with french fries? Really?

I actually LOVE San Angel Inn. It's authentic Mexican, if you like Mexican food, you'll love it.

Why not just look at the menus and compare?

Ate at both of them our last trip and liked them for different reasons. At Chefs, had the flatbread with cream fraiche/onions/bacon, French onion soup, and beef tenderloin and that was a terrific meal. All the while we could watch out the large windows facing the lake; it was during the wine festival and a "human statue" was working outside - large crowds passing, perfect early evening weather - just a fantastic experience. San Angel had the great volcano background; I really felt like I was in the plaza of a small Mexican village. Had some sort of pork dish along with some quesadillas, both very tasty. It is dim in there but I thought that added to the atmosphere. IMHO you can't go wrong with either - depends on the mood your taste buds are in.

When are you going? All Ears is reporting SAI is closing for refurb on May 10 with no futher information about when it will re-open. So it may be a moot point.

That noted, if the closure doesn't affect you my vote is for Chefs anyway. :thumbsup2

We ate at Chefs on our last trip and we loved it! We will definitely go back in September!

yes, chefs hands-down.

we just ate at both a couple of weeks ago and everything we got at chefs, even the kids' meals, was delicious. our waiter, quentin, was a delight. sai was AWFUL. i love any kind of mexican, i am not picky about it, but this food was so bland and dried out and seemed to have been prepared forever ago, even though we ate at 5 pm. also, the waiter was horrendous. it was dh's birthday dinner and i felt SO badly that we spent it there. :sad1:

We would select Chefs, but note San Angel is definately nice on a hot Summer day too, especially if you grab a margarita or two...young kids often fall asleep here due to the low light level.

San Angel Inn is just Ok food-wise but the atmopshere is great. We went to Chefs de France in 07 on the meal plan and in 08 without the plan. In 07, the food was OK, the waiter was rude, the place was loud, we had a really long wait despite ADRs - I wasn't impressed. Hubby wasn't with me in 07 and insisted on trying it this past trip. This time, we had a great time, the food was wonderful, the waitress was nice. The only thing is that dinner for 2 was $200. Yes we did have a bottle of wine but still - for what you get, it's really overpriced, even compared to other Disney restaurants.

We have been to Chefs twice and it is our favorite for dinner/lunch..Boma being first in the breakfast department!

We have had the flatbreads...yummy! The onion soup was so cheesy and goooood! We got the French Menu last time and will make it a priority to go back each vacation! That grilled cheese and hame sandwich is unlike any you have ever eaten before...almost like a French Hot Brown.
