I wanted to know if the flat-breads on the Chefs de France menu are considered an appetizer choice if you are on the DlxDP?

"Les Tartes des Chefs - Original flatbreads from the brick oven
A la Flame Alsacienne - Alsace specialty with creme fraiche, onion and bacon $12.99

Tomate et fromage de chevre - Tomato and goat cheese $13.99"

We are also going to Teppan Edo and Via Napoli, and I will have to review our appetizer choices there as well.

This will be our first time using a dining plan, and I'm not familiar with how they treat the appetizer category with additional items, like salads, sushi, flatbreads, and other things that are typically listed in separate categories.

Any recommendations for appetizers would be welcome. (Photos are helpful as well, if you can direct me to any available on Disboards, or if you have any of your own.)

Thanks!!

Since the flatbreads are not specifically listed as appetizers, not sure about that one. Each restaurant can and might do it differently.

But Via Napoli is where you need to watch out - if you want pizza, on DDP you can order only individual pizzas, and you can't use 1 credit to feed 2 or more people.

May I suggest this:
Salade de Chevre Chaud - Baked goat cheese with walnuts, fresh grapes, tomatoes, endives and arugula salad $11.99

It was sooo good!

It's been several years, but I did get the mushroom flat bread at Chef's de France as my appetizer on the DxDDP. Actually I tried to order two appetizers, instead of an appetizer and entree, (since I wanted both the mushroom flatbread and the Assiette Campagnarde and wasn't really interested in any of the entrees). Just FYI: They will not let you substitute an appetizer for an entree, even though the appetizer is cheaper.

Over at VN, the appetizers are the items listed under "Piccoli Piatti" and "Antipasti". Note that the Fritto Misto requires that two people order when using the DxDP (because it serves 2).

As aubriee noted, you cannot substitute a second appetizer for your entree at any of the third party venues. Disney only reimburses them based on the DxDP allocations, so they wouldn't be able to claim the second appetizer as an entree. Some of the Disney owned venues might be more flexible, but it's always best to go in assuming you can't order two appetizers. You can ask, but be prepared to be told no. Likewise for the desserts; you cannot substitute an appetizer for a dessert (this is less of an issue with the DxDP where you get both), except in the case a few places where the cheese plate is on both the appetizer and dessert menus.

yes you can get the flat bread on the deluxe plan. It's delicious:goodvibes Pretty much anything listed under appetizers, flatbreads, soups, salads, and sushi are acceptable appetizers. There are some apps that feed more than one and it will say in the description on the menu "for 2". For these options, you would just have to use to people's app credits. The only sushi I am not sure about is Tokyo Dining as I've never been. The sushi at Cali Grill is all covered accept for the most expensive one who's name escapes me right now lol. I love the deluxe plan. It's nice having an early lunch and a really nice Signature Dinner. Of course, lots of walking it off is required :cool1:
Have a great trip!

Thanks all.

I was able to order the tomato goat cheese flatbread as an appetizer. Which was really good. I might try the goat cheese next time, it sounds really good. DH ordered the crab and shrimp app, and I tasted it, it was delish.

I did find out that sushi is not considered an app at Teppan Edo, we ended up picking the assorted tempura. Their chocolate ginger cake was A-MAZ-ING. Loved it.

Overall, I think the DLXDP was a success, we had a great time, and it saved money - compared to what it would have cost using our TiW card. We ended up having some almond pretzels left from our snack credits, we ate those the next morning for breakfast. We had more food than we usual would have ordered, but it ended up costing us the same as if we didn't order as much. DH was impressed I think. It ended up being a great way to save money and treat ourselves to some nice dinners.

On a side note/update regarding using the dining plan, we are bringing his mom and dad to AKL for his dad's birthday/mini Christmas celebration. It would be cheaper to get the DlxDP, hopefully (depends on what they order, it worked for us). We're going to get them Epcot after 4 passes as their Christmas gifts/birthday gifts.

So, I made reservations at 'Ohana, Tutto, and Chefs de France, and I'm planning that we will all use the DlxDP again. It's going to save money, at least with DH and me. I know my MIL is going to say something snarky about it already. Even though this would be our 2nd time using the DP *EVER* and we've been together like 16 years, she's going to say "oh, now I know why you guys love Disney so much" [read between the lines, saying we're overweight/fat]. So, I'm a little bent out of shape about that because she is so predictable. I should just tell her it's the first time we're doing the dining plan so I don't have to hear it. It's bad enough to be overweight without having to hear that noise. My FIL loves to eat and she just berates him constantly, it's so hard to deal with. Sorry for the vent. I know you guys understand.

Sorry, eating in front of the food police on vacation is no fun! :sad2:

Thanks for the info about the flatbread. We probably won't do DDP again, but if we did, we would probably go DxDP and I would definitely want to get one of those flatbreads to help share with my twins (they will be under 3 when we go again).
