I need some help on making a final decision on our dining plans. This will be my family first visit to wdw. I have ds (11), 2 dds (5, 2). I have two ADRs for a first full day in May: Sci-Fi (lunch) & Chef Mickey's (dinner). I am trying to decided which one to put for my family especially the kids. I already have Ohana (breaksfast & dinner), Princess Storybook in Norway (breaksfast), & Crystal Palace (dinner). DH & ds would love Sci-Fi. The girls love Mickey & the gang, & would love to seat in the cars. Thanks in advance...

You have some great dining going on! Looks much like our favorites, too. The only issue I have is having 2 ADRs on the same day. Can make it difficult to be in the right place at the right time. We did Chef Mickey's for breakfast last May. Had an early (well, I thought so) ADR for 7:45 and still didn't make MK rope drop:sad1: BUT now that we've been there done that I'm beginning to realize we enjoy the EMH better than the craziness of morning rope drop! Who woulda thunk?? Because we had Chef Mickey's right at the start of our day, we did counter service later that day and didn't run into any timing issues.

We LOVED our dinner at Sci-Fi. It was the best our 3 year old ate all week! Plus it was nice and relaxing (nice and COOL since it was 100 degrees outside) to sit our car.

I would do both restaurants again.

I thought about doing both, but I made the adrs on the same day. If I can get Chef Mickey's on our arrival day, I will do it. I have to keep checking for adrs & the cancellation board.

We did Chef Mickeys on arrival day (Dinner) and it was a great way to kick off the vacation. Never been to Sci-Fi...I have heard you don't always get a seat in a car. Hope someone can comment on that for you...
Both sound like fun. My boys also loved Chef Mickeys too (their favorite character meal and an overall highlight for our family)

I say Sci Fi b/c you will see Mickey at Ohana breakfast, right?

Also, if you are going OOP, Sci Fi would be cheaper

As long as your family will eat burgers, milkshakes, fries, I think the food is okay and it is a cool place :thumbsup2

I am also guessing that you are in DHS that day...Sci Fi would be a nice break in your day whereas CM would be a trek to get to (unless you are staying at CR)

ETA: Chef Mickey for dinner is just okay...it was nice to do once, but I don't think I'll ever bother returning. (We are having breakfast at Tusker House to see Mickey this year)

I also wanted to add that several of the meals seemed geared towards the younger ages and the girls...crystal palace, princess, ohana breakfast...

I would let the guys have something :rotfl2:

We don't do sci-fi anymore... my dd who was 3 at the time HATED the movie that was showing. We actually had to leave. I was in total shock that it would effect her but something to consider since you have a young one with you.

I agree and understand, but you also have to consider that your 2 year old may freak out crying at Chef Mickey's...we saw some of that too.

I vote for Sci-Fi. You are already doing a Mickey character meal and honestly, I don't think Chef Mickey's is all it is cracked up to be.

I find CM's to be very loud, kinda chaotic, and not very clean (just my opinion).

Sci-Fi has a very unique theme that I'll bet your 11 year old would really enjoy! You can get great milk shakes there and the burgers are delicious. I think it is very rare not to get a table that is a car. There are only a few non-car tables and I believe they are reserved for handicapped guests, obese guests that cannot fit into the cars, and walk-ins. I'm not sure what to say about the movies. We did not find them to be scary, nor did we notice any children around us scared, but that does not mean that children don't get scared from time to time. Your best bet is to do a search on Youtube for the Sci-Fi Dine in and check out the movies for yourself.

Anyways, just my opinion, but I would say Sci-Fi all the way! :)

I also vote for Sci Fi!!! :thumbsup2 I love that place. You get to sit in a car while watching clips. Its amazing! Very unique place. The food is quite yummy too. I LOVE their ribs & shakes!! My DS10 loves their burgers.

Since you have enough character meals, i'd go with this one. I personally dont like CM at all. As someone above had said, its too chaotic and loud (even my DS thinks so), plus the atmosphere reminds me of a school cafe. Dont get me started on the food. Not very good at all...food was lukewarm! :sad2:

RE: the so called "scary" clips at Sci Fi....honestly, its not scary at all. I know every kid is different, but i rarely ever see young kids freak out when i am there. Im sure your 3 yo will be fine.

I vote for Chef Mickey! We love it there (mainly cuz of the characters) IMO u can never have to many character meals when you have kids with you, saves lots of time from being in lines to take pictures. I enjoyed the food at Sci-Fi when we went, however, the repetition of the same clips over and over again.....well it drove me nuts! So as as far as Sci-Fi...great decor not so great experiance

Chef Mickey's is a MUST do for my family! The experience/atmosphere just IS Disney to me, I guess. We all love it!

To be fair, we have only done apps/desserts at sci-fi, not eaten a meal. I had the spinach artichoke dip, and it was really yummy. Sitting in the cars was cool, and I'd go again, but if I could only choose one.... well, like I said, Chef Mickey's is a must do!

Thanks everyone.
DH wants to try Sci-Fi. DS said that it looks kind of cool to sit in cars & have a burger & shakes. (Yummy):cool1:
