Which one do you prefer and why? We only want to do one character breakfast and I can't decide between the two. DD will be 4.5 and DS 1 when we go this Dec.

Tough one...love 'em both, but if I had to pick: Donald's Safari Breakfast. The characters at each restaurant are the same, so that's not a factor. Although I think the outfits at the Tusker House are cuter than at Chef Mickey's. We like the food better at the Safari Breakfast. We also like the atmosphere better. It's also great that you're already in the park. For instance, if the park opens at 9:00 and your ADR is at 8:45, then you can get into the park at around 8:20-8:30 and get some fabulous shots of your family in front of the Tree of Life without the big crowds...PRICELESS!

Good luck with your decision. Have a magical time! We just might see you there!

We dined at both last year and we preferred the food and the character interaction were better than Chef Mickey's. :thumbsup2

We had breakfast at both in August. The food and atmosphere were MUCH better at Tusker House. In December, we went to Tusker House and we'll be back there this July, but we have dropped Chef Mickey's from our choices.

Our family has been to Chef Mickey's at least seven times and have always enjoyed it.I guess we've been lucky because all our meals have been good to great.

Yep that pretty much sums it up for me also...Love em both but if I had to pick I'd go Donalds Safari breakfast for all the same reasons!

We have been the last two Junes to both in both years.

I like Chef Mickey's better. If I have to pick just one. It just seems more fun and spirted to me. Just does.

Food is a push, but that Juice at Donalds is really good. I have found that the lines at Donalds can be a bit much sometimes. The lines always seem to flow better at Chef Mickeys.

Donalds does offer some great pictures if you get in early. If you are early here you do get a normally good spot in line for early Safari ride.

I love Minnie, she's my favorite, so Chef Mickey's. However, in May we are doing Donald's breakfast & Cape May (to see Minnie) since in Sept we ate at Chef Mickey's twice (stayed at BLT).

So you like CM or DSB better?

The vote was for Donald's Safari at the top of the post and then she explained that the food and interaction were better at DS than at CM..
I agree 100% - I am really amazed that people love CM...must have burned their taste buds at a young age!
DS is great food, atmosphere and character interaction..and, as a previous poster said, you're already in the park.
We make our ADR's for 8 am...have a very relaxing breakfast, and then we're on the very first truck for safari to say good morning to the animals!

We loved the Tusker House for breakfast as well. Last August I had 8am reservations on a day where the park opened at 9am for everyone (no EMH). We were done by 8:50 and were the second family on the Safari ride for the day. The Tusker House is located right next to the attraction.

Another vote for Tusker House here!

I liked the food sooooo much more than CM. The unique dishes and flavors are such a change from the typical breakfast fare at most of the character meals, but if you wanted the old standbys, they were there too.

TH also has the kids get up and march around in a sort of conga line paraded and they're given different African instruments and shakers to carry during. Really cute!

^^^ This is not the case at all. Chef Mickey's has the following characters: Mickey, Minnie, Donald, and Goofy. While Tusker House has the following characters: Donald, Daisy, Mickey and Goofy.

So to answer the OP's question, I would recommend doing Both. Here are the pros and cons of both.

Chef Mickeys Pros: Iconic Disney character meal. Characters dressed in their Chef outfits. A chance to see Minnie! Good food. Good character interaction. A chance to ride the monorail to either MK or Epcot afterwards.

Chef Mickeys Cons: No Daisy. :sad1: Not inside a park so no chance for early morning pictures inside an empty park. If staying at a non-monorail resort and using Disney transportation, it may difficult to get to CM for an early morning ADR. They recommend you leave your resort at least 45 minutes before your ADR time. So if you have a 8AM ADR you'll have to be on that bus stop no later than 7:15AM, in fact just to be on the safe side, I'd say 7AM would be a better time to wait for the bus to MK then jump on a monorail to the Contemporary.

Tusker House Pros: Cute Disney character meal. Characters dressed in their Safari outfits. A chance to see Daisy! Great food. Excellent character interaction. A chance to take pictures inside a empty park if your ADR is before park opening. You are already inside the park after your meal and it's easy to get to the safari ride with shorter lines. The morning safari rides are best because that's when the animals are most active.

Tusker House Cons: No Minnie. :sad1: I can't think of any other negatives for Tusker House.

Last December we had Minnie at Tusker House too... so the only one we missed was Pluto... and Donald was inside for interactions, and Daisy was outside for photos.

I think this is rotated.

We are actually doing both in September, however if I had to pick just one, then I would say Donald's Safari Breakfast and get an ADR before the park opens (awesome time to be in the park because you can get really great pictures of your family and the park before the crowds start to come in). We are doing CM only because we are staying at CR and it is very convenient for us to get to, plus it was a request by my DD6 so she can get her Minnie fix. Have a wonderful time, December is one of my favorite time of the year to go to Disney :goodvibes

Donald's Safari Breakfast is my absolute favorite character meal, and that's coming from somebody who typically doesn't eat at breakfast and generally dislikes character meals!

The buffet at Tusker House is varied, and the food is of a considerably higher quality than the what Chef Mickey's offers. I also like Tusker House because it is a little quieter and easier than Chef Mickey's, which is often too noisy and chaotic for my family to enjoy.
