Chef Mickey's or 7DMT

Our first night I was able to score both a 7-8 pm 7DMT FP+ , and later on in the planning process was able to grab a 6:40 Chef Mickey's reservation. I've never been on 7DMT and neither has my GF, but at the same time she really wanted to go to Chef Mickey's. Which should I choose? Reading mixed reviews about CM lately. Also, as a side note we have the DDP and will be going to Biergarten, Coral Reef, Hoop Dee Doo, Rainforest, and Sci Fi! So we won't exactly be going hungry this trip regardless :)

If you get to CM early, maybe could be seated early/on time? Hustle with dinner and monorail or even walk back to park. Even an hour to eat and 20 minutes travel time gets you within the grace period of your FP at SDMT. I think :)

Keep trying for an earlier Chef Mickeys reservation, if it doesn't work out do 7DMT at rope drop one day. When we did it the wait was estimated at 30 min. but only took 10.

...but at the same time she really wanted to go to Chef Mickey's. Which should I choose?..

Do you really need to ask?

You can get on 7DMT without a FP+ if you want (the earlier in the morning or later in the evening the shorter the wait). You can't get into CM without an ADR. If you want to keep your GF as your GF, best to make her happy and keep the one that you can't do without.

I would cancel Chef Mickey - you can 'eat' anytime!! But, that's just us! But, definitely would not do as pp suggested - eat a large meal - then ride! :tilt: :faint:

I agree with this. You can always go on 7DMT. Can't always get a reservation for CM. My suggestion, go to CM then head over to MK and do standby for 7DMT. The later it gets, typically, the shorter the line. Or try to move that FP+ to a later time.

Also note that 8DMT is a very brief experience. I mean, it is short.

CM is a much more extended thing.

Keep trying to change your reservation. people change all the time. the easier choice is to change your fast pass, cause you can search for a different time without actually changing it till you find a better slot. But keep both of them till something fits. Good luck!

I would keep Chef Mickey's. You can try to ride 7DMT without a FP or try to get an earlier FP time.

We have eaten at Chef Mickeys on every trip...my kids love the characters there...the food on the other hand is just ok for me and dinner especially is nothing special. 7DMT we rode 3 times on our last trip...my son had a DAS so that helped a lot...although by the 3rd ride on it my son was quickly bored of it, lol...personally I think its definitely worth doing 1 time but I really don't see what all the hype is about it...it feels like you are on the ride for literally 30 seconds, lol...anyways if you have never dined at Chef Mickeys I would keep that bc it is definitely a something worth doing once...I would also try to ride 7DMT without a FP...go into MK after Chef Mickeys and you might have a better chance of doing the stand by line with a minimal wait for 7DMT...or do it at RD. When we were there last year we had a FP for 9:30-10:30AM and when we got over there at 9:30 AM there was only like a 20 minute wait, which is really not bad for a stand by queue at 9:30AM

Well the hope was to grab a spot for the night time parade after dinner, so we wouldn't have time for 7DMT until after the fireworks. MK is open until 12 am on this particular day!

7DMT is not a bad ride to ride after you eat lol

Depends entirely on who is riding! Yes, it would be for us, and I know others that can't ride any ride like that just after eating a large meal also. We each know our own limits, thankfully, and it wouldn't be a joke!

I wouldn't cancel either. I think that's perfect timing.

Chef Mickey's is a buffet. The amount of time spent dining is really up to you. As you are two adults, you should be able to eat dinner and get to 7DMT in plenty of time with a 15 minute grace period on the FP+.

As someone noted, get to CM early and perhaps you'll be seated before your reservation time. Even if not and you are only seated at your reservation time of 6:40pm, you can immediately head to the buffet. Salad, dinner and dessert couldn't possibly take you more than 45 minutes.

If you left CM at 7:30pm, it's a ten-minute walk to the gates of MK. With bag check, tapstiles and walk up main street, that's another 15-20 minutes tops. You should definitely get to 7DMT by 8pm, which gives you the full 15 minute grace period should anything slow you down along the way.

My opinion is Chef Mickey is horrible and 7DMT is overrated and over-hyped. Tough question indeed. I would say go to the MK at rope drop and do 7DMT and if you must, keep the Chef Mickey ADR. But if I were to keep the FP+ I would find a much more tolerable restaurant at the MK or nearby resort that is more pleasant to the senses of sight, smell and taste. :rotfl2::goodvibes

but at the same time she really wanted to go to Chef Mickey's.

For your sake, I'd recommend doing what your girlfriend wants. :rolleyes1

The food isn't gourmet at Chef Mickey's, but it's generally edible. It's more for the character experience than the food. If you show up a bit early for your reservation, ask to pay before you are done, you should be able to make your FP+ before it's over. Two adults can eat quickly and hustle over. Remember, it's better to walk back from the Contemporary. If you take the monorail, it stops at the TTC, Poly and Grand Floridian before stopping back at the park.

Woooooo!!! Just was able to change my FP+ from 7:05 to 6:05!! I can do both now! PUMPED :dogdance:

Side Question though.. how long will it take me to get from 7DMT to CM.. Via Monorail

I'd keep the Chef Mickey's ADR and go to 7DMT at rope drop or before park closing if you can't snag another FP. I would not try to do both in one evening. I would not rush such an expensive meal to enjoy it fully. I know CM's gets mixed reviews, but so does everything else at WDW. We like it: the food and character interaction has been good for us. The service has been lacking a couple times, but if we are on the DDP I won't hesitate to go again. After dinner, take some time to tour the Contemporary...it is a gorgeous resort especially at night.

Looks like you've got some fun ADRs planned! I especially like Biergarten.

Edit: just saw your update. I would allow at least 30 minutes travel time from 7D to CM. It will take 10-15 min to walk to the front of the MK, and another 10 to walk over to the Contemporary, another 5 to go up to the 4th floor (is it still called the Grand Canyon Concourse? I always liked that name.)

Edit #2: Just saw that you will be taking the monorail :-) I'd add another 15 minutes to walk up to the monorail and wait. Seriously, by the time you walk up to the monorail stop and wait, you could already be at the CR if you follow the walking path.

10 minute walk from 7DMT to exit gates. 5 minute wait for the Resort Monorail (don't take the express). 5 minute ride to the Contemporary as it's the first stop.

Monorail or not, shouldn't really impact the total travel time.
