Went to Chef Mickeys last night for dinner. I knew it had changed from buffet to family style, but the whole vibe was so different. Characters moved around, but didnt even come close to the table. Just a wave from about 15 feet away!! No autographs or hugs :( . Food was pretty good. Its all or nothing. When the waiter let us know what we would be getting, we said he could skip the prime rib (nobody in my family wanted it because we knew it would be too rare for us), and skip the shrimp salad. He said it all comes together and just dont eat what we didnt want. What a waste!! Waiter team Christian/Pete were great. No swinging napkins!! No "Celebrate Mickey Mouse" song. They had a new no-so-upbeat song about baking. Just a totally different, almost somber, vibe. Very sad.

On a good note, we were at Chef de France the night before and it was very lively! Quiet week at the parks and extremely surprising not a drop of rain since we got here on Monday. Not one drop. I hope I didnt just jinx myself. Boo Bash tomorrow night! Hoping for great weather.

We ate there a couple months ago, the characters weren't 15ft. away, they went around and stood about 3-4 feet away from tables waved and posed for a picture. They also danced around the restaurant with the new song.
I didn't feel it was somber at all, my grandson had a wonderful time.
This is how it has been with character's for the last year in all restaurants and at the parks too, no autographs or hugs just distanced hello's.
It will be this way in the park for The Boo Bash as well, new times, new rules to protect the CM's.

I was wondering about the selections for dinner. So you don't have to choose what you want? they actually bring all the selections out to try, including all the deserts?? that sounds great, actually.

Yes. 3 types of salads, 3 proteins (prime rib, salmon, turkey) , 3 or 4 sides (I remember carrots, green beans, some type of cheesy potato - not au gratin, scalloped or delmonico!! and I think something else) and dinner rolls. Petite desserts too..3 types. You got it all whether you wanted it or not! Anything you wanted more of was brought to you as well.

I only took a picture of the desserts :)

We have reservations for our Oct trip. I have heard good reviews about the food being better than when it was a buffet. I hope it stays this way for our trip. Characters at a distance work well for our little kids.

All the character meals are distanced right now, I'm surprised you hadn't read that!
