What are your thoughts on Chef Mickeys for dinner. Is the food good? Any info would be great.:smooth:

When we went in August of last year the food was fair, it just wasn't very fresh, a lot things needed to be filled and freshened up...but when we went just this past month it was much better. Everything was filled up and fresh.

The character interaction both times was very good, in some cases we got visited twice by a few of them even with the restaurant being almost full. It's a fun easy going atmosphere.

Hi,

We always do Chef Mickey's as out last dinner in the "world". We usually book a 5:30pm p.s. and we have never had issues with the food being cold or empty. The prime rib and mashed potatoes are out of this world. There is a good antipasto and soups along with a great desert bar. This is a must do meal for my husband and I.

We always do it as our 1st dinner...really sets the mood for the whole vacation...then go over and watch the parade/fireworks...can't think of a better way to start a vacation. Food has always been good whenever we've been there (6 times or so for dinner).

I know we are in the minority, but we will never eat there again. The food was horrible... cold, over cooked and completely tasteless. The service was non existent. Saw the server 2X... When he took our drink order and when he brought our check.
The "setting"... unbelievable loud, and what where they thinking when the put a seating area upstairs at a buffet restaurant. Granted there are only about 5 steps that area, but please... kids, plates full of food and steps do not mix.

The food has always been good, the mashed potatoes are worth the whole meal, but the atmosphere is FANTASTIC

LOL ... Sorry but I found the potatoes were uneatable. Reminds me of a post from a UK DIS'er. They looked forward to the potatoes and after tasting thme figured that Amercans have nevertasted good mashed potatoes before. I think they compared them to wall paper paste. I would have to agree. They were cold, bland and very very pasty.

We have eaten at Chef Mickey's at least 4X previously and always enjoyed it. This time though, June 7, it was terrible. No soups, no fruit except unripe canteloupe, runny mashed potatoes - obviously instant, horrible ribs, and the pasta yuck!!! It seems like once a place becomes very popular then the food suffers. Hollywood and Vine was much better!!! And we were seated at 5:15pm so it should have been fresh!!!

We enjoy Chef Mickey's our 6 year old really enjoys the atmoshpere as do we. The only complaint I ever had was that it is really cold. So from now on I just bring a sweater or sweat shirt. I'm a very picky eater and I always find something I like. As for the service, I can't complain about that either we always had refills when needed and were offered coffee after our dinner meals. We have had both breakfast and dinner there several times.

Just my opinions and experiences.

I would love to be eating there for breakfast tomorrow. :(

This is a must do for every trip. Sometimes the food is great, sometimes not so great. The time it was not so great, I was 3 months pregnant, so maybe my taste buds were warped. This is the best place for a celebration, though. We will go this year for DDs first b'day.

We only ate there once - on our last trip in 2000 and we loved it! Our dd's can't wait to go back this fall. DH and I loved prime rib and shrimp!

We ate there our first night on 5/31. The food was terrific, pleantiful and hot. We liked everything we tried. My DH said the prime rib was some of the best he has ever eaten. Our server was very attentive and cleared the dirty plates almost immediately.

The character interaction was very good. My DS loved it. Chip played a game of tag around our table with him. Got some great pictures.

This will be a must do for our family from now on.

2 thumbs up for Chef Mickeys, a must visit for us. We have been there 5 or 6 times and the food is always good. The dessert bar is excellent. It is loud but that is part of the fun, and after a busy day in the parks you don't really notice it. We will be back at WDW over Christmas and Chef Mickey's is on the agenda.

We traveled with another family in Nov. '01. They insisted we do an adult dinner at CG. Which we did. I did all the planning for both families and double-checked all my ps's with them. So, we did Chef Mickey's on our first night. They loved it!! (as did my family). Everyone thought it was a terrific choice and thought the food was more than just okay. My dh hasn't stopped talking about the mashed potatoes yet!! Is it noisy?? Yep. Are kids running all over the place?? Yep. Are you sure that you'll get terrific food every time you go?? Nope. In fact, we had some of the other posters' complaints about 1900 Park Fare character dinner. Food was mediocre and cold. So, I guess it can happen anywhere. Chef Mickey's is now our first meal tradition. I figure we're sort of odd since my dh and weren't crazy about CG!!!

I've eaten dinner there half a dozen times--each time I swear I'll never go back. This time I really mean it.

What do I hate about the place?

Even with a PS you end up waiting to be seated. In fact once we waited over half an hour from our PS time, even after showing up 10 minutes early.

The food sucks. Period. Not to mention too many out of control kids sticking their fingers into everything. YUCK! YUCK! YUCK!

Did I mention the out of control, frenzied kids?

I hate the environment. It's LOUD LOUD LOUD! It's manic and frenzied.

Did I mention the cold food and empty pans? The last time I was there they never did refresh the shrimp.

I'm sure I could keep going, but I"m making myself ill thinking about the place. I'm going to go take a couple aspirin.

We too will never eat there again. Food was nothing more than average. We also waited over 45 minutes with PS! I was looking forward to the famous potatoes I've heard so much about, and they were awful! I think alot of people haven't had good, homemade mashed potatoes from scratch!

But the worst part was that we were seated far away from the buffet in a corner. We couldn't see any of the action! My boys were so dissapointed! Sure was not what we anticipated!

We ate at Chef Mickey's for the first time last year and really enjoyed it. We thought that the food was good (especially the potatoes and the shrimp.) The dessert bar is fabulous and the characters are fun! I personally didn't think it was that loud, maybe not the place to go for a quiet romantic dinner but for a fun night at WDW I would definitely suggest it!

To be honest...don't remember a lot about the food itself. But I DO remember how great the character interaction was and that we saw the fireworks above the castle at MK from the window in the alcove where our tables were (we were at 2 tables...my mom and sibs with husbands, wives, and children...20 in total)...it was magical!

We're another family that always eats at Chef Mickey's everytime we go.

We find the food good, and haven't ever run into cold food or shortages.

It's not Five-Star quality food that you would expect at Wolfgang Puck's, but it's worth the price...along with the atmosphere. We favor dinner over breakfast.

The character interaction is good, each time we've been we get a good amount of time with each one walking through. And Mickey's party song, with towel waving, brings out the kid in everyone.

I'd say to make it a point to eat there.

My advice about Chef Mickey's:

Don't go on your first day if you had a long travel day. This made the experience very unenjoyable for us...I had read over and over how great this place is to get you in the Disney "mood." I hated the fact we hate to wait to get our stupid picture taken, then wait again to be seated. We traveled from Oregon, were up since 4:30 AM, tired, I had a migraine, the kids were wiped, although they were definitely intrigued and liked the characters a lot- Chip was the best- he sat down with the boys and played. It was very LOUD though- normally this doesn't bother me at all- I'm used to loud, but I was so tired I found it obnoxious.

As far as the food: as I recall, almost everything looked good, and what I ate tasted good. My kids ate some tasty chicken strips, although the pizza wasn't refreshed- if it was it was all taken by time we went back...I liked the salad, the ravioli and the mashed potatoes were ok---a little wet in my opinion. I liked the prime rib, although I had a hard time tracking down a roll---maybe I wasn't looking in the right place. And then, when it came time for dessert, I remember reading that you could decorate your own cupcakes---no cupcakes were anywhere!!!! Bummer! We made sundaes instead and I had a piece of great cheesecake. By the end of the meal my migraine meds had kicked in so I was feeling better and able to enjoy dessert. Our server was good- he gave us carafes of soda so we didn't have to ask for refills and he was very friendly.

Long story short- don't go if you're tired. Food decent. Characters good.
