The food reviews are all over the map. Decent to horrible, but mainly not very good. We're going for dinner, seeking help from the pros. I'm not expecting much, but I'm hoping there are some things that are at least edible. I booked it basically for the character aspect, and trying to choose between other character dinners, CM won because of proximity to MK, and also because I saw, "Sushi Selection" on the dinner menu. I figured if there was some average quality of sushi, I could easily get my 50 bux worth. I'll come back and post about my experience which will hopefully help others, but I'm wondering if anyone can offer some specific, "yays or nays" about the CM DINNER buffet? I think everyone pretty much agrees the characters are very good, so I'm interested in hearing about / discussing the dinner food only. Really interested in how scary / or decent he sushi is. Again, I'm not expecting much, basically going for the experience for the kids, but...should I eat a sandwich before we go?

It's not that bad lol don't do that. They have the basic salad, some soups, mashed potatoes, roast beef. We went in September I thought the food was fine it's more about the characters in my opinion. Forgot to add! Basic kids meal stuff as well, mac and cheese chicken fingers, corn dogs. It's not as bad as people say.

I have no idea about the sushi, but I don't know where the hate really comes from here. We've been twice and had perfectly good meals both times. Not fine dining, no, but we liked it! And that's with one near-vegetarian, one meat-loved, a really picky kid and a really not-picky kid.

I've seen it compared to an Old Country Buffet and it's much much better than that. (Although I suppose that's faint praise.) Unless it's gotten much worse in three years...

We ate there in January and wasn't sure what to expect either. The food was good not great but the server we had was fantastic! The atmosphere was a fun dining experience!

Chef Mickey's was nowhere near as bad as I thought it was. The sushi was pretty poor, but the roast beef, mashed potatoes, the short ribs, and the desserts made up for everything. It's really about the characters - which, you don't even have to worry about missing. They come right to you - every table, and they interact with EVERY table, hence the cost. If you keep an eye out for fresh food being delivered, and get tastes of the things that you would expect to be good on a steam table, the price is palatable. If they had self serve dole whips, I bet nobody would complain about the price. I know I wouldn't.

I don't get all the hate for Chef Mickey. We often go there as an arrival dinner an never leave upset. The characters have always been fun, the service outstanding, and the food decent.

I have never observed a dirty buffet area, have had lukewarm food, but I was following a little one who was intent on choosing the perfect selection of items, so that was on me.

I've done dinner at Chef Mickey's several times. I've always enjoyed the food and left happily stuffed to the brim. I don't like sushi so I can't comment on it specifically.

We love the turkey and mashed potatoes there. Food is fine in general. Nothing overwhelming. You are really there for the characters.

I have been to CM once and LOVED it. The food was fine. The sushi is not the best. Do not eat a sandwich it is not that bad. The atmosphere is awesome.

I think people give it a bad rap because it is a buffet, but we always enjoy it and is a must-do for us. The food is certainly edible (the mashed potatoes are our favorite!), so no need to eat before you go. Is it fine dining? No. But it's a great meal for character interaction, and the food is decent. As long as you go in with reasonable expectations, you should be fine.
