thinking of chef mickeys for dinner on our may trip, and then go outside to see wishes, what do you all think? good idea or not? :confused3

I would say Chef Mickeys is good for the experience and bad for the food. The last time there (for dinner), I was disgusted with the choices and ended up eating chicken fingers and mac and cheese off the kids buffet table. Maybe someone had a better experience with breakfast.

Even the items in the salad bar were wilted and discolored. I didn't even know it was possible to mess up a salad bar.

I also think we waited 45 minutes with a PS.

The breakfast was worth it. I'm debating the dinner for our upcoming trip, too, so any opinions would be welcome. :-)

We were just there on Sunday. We did not have PS's, but decided to see if they had any available, they had just opened for dinner and said they could seat us right away. We had a great time it is my son's favorite place. He is 9 and my husband and I enjoy it too. The salad was excellent the shrimp were pretty good. They had Mickey cheese ravioli for the adults which they didn't have in October. They had roast beef that could be carved. Cheddar Mashed potatos, chicken and other things that I don't remember. The only thing that I was unhappy with was dessert they didn't what I was craving. Pumpkin pie Tarts. The do have soft serve ice cream, alot of toppings for that, carrot cake, cheese cake, fruit, brownies and a bunch of little bite sized items.

The interaction with the characters was wonderful. We saw a few 3 times.

Have fun whatever you decide.

I guess we all don't really go there for the food--its a magical place regardless of the cuisine.

That being said, on a pure food basis, we were disappointed in our last visit for dinner. Much of the food was dried out and unappealing, and they did a poor job of cleaning the serving area so there was stuff slobbered all over the tray areas and even the floors.

We still had a great time, though, but if you just want a good meal, this probably isn't the place.

thanks for the replies, seems like we've got a lot to think about before making a PS or not :confused3

You can see a sample menu for dinner at Chef Mickey's at http://www.allearsnet.com/menu/menu_cmk.htm

I guess it depends why you are visiting Chef Mickey's. Personally, it doesn't appeal to me because the food is only fair (according to what I've researched) and the atmosphere is noisy.

If you are interested in dining and viewing Wishes, you should consider the California Grill.

We have had breakfast here-late--11:20am--and it was great!! We are going back for a return trip--wil post on trip reviews upon return.

Have never been for dinner though. . . .but we are definitely doing breakfast again. . .

We've done breakfast and dinner within the last year, and we much prefer breakfast. Character interaction at both was great, but the food at dinner was mediocre at best. The food at breakfast had lots of standard fare with some interesting additions, like PB&J pizza (yum!) and a rolled up egg thing with a meat filling (I can't remember the name, but it was awesome!). Yes, it's noisy, but that's part of the atmosphere, and we had lots of fun. Regarding having dinner at CG, if you have young children, this upscale restaurant won't provide much fun for them, but the view of Wishes is one of the best.

I agree with the last poster, if you have kids that are under 8 year old I think Chef Mickey's is OK, if not I would pass.

How long does dinner usually last between the characters and everything? Can you plan on spending an hour or do you need more time than that to eat and spend time with the characters? We have never done a character meal before so we are not sure what to expect. Do the characters basically just walk around for pics and autographs at each table? thanks.

Usually an hour is what it takes to see all the characters and have a relaxing meal. Depending on how many kids are at each table and where you are at. Yes, the characters walk around and take pictures at each table. It is nice that you don't have to stand in line and people are generally good about not letting their kids jump in when the characters are at someones table.

CM gets a lot of bad reviews for food but I found the food pretty good actually. Even my picky husband liked it. The desserts weren't great (dried up, tiny, tasteless cakes and tarts), but the chicken, potatoes, and veggies were quite tasty. Mmmm, the mashed potatoes... *drool* We like the food and atmosphere so much we'll be going back again in the fall and bringing the whole family. :)

But then we also liked Sci-Fi which gets bad reviews as well. We stuck to burgers and shakes and had a great time. I don't know, the only bad food we've had at Disney was... oh, I can't even remember. I think it was breakfast somewhere in Epcot FW, my bagel was dry and stale. And some place had cold, dry french fries. Other than that we've been very happy.

I don't know about seeing Wishes. Is there anything to obscure the view from the ground floor? I would think there might be a lot of trees in your way but I've never done it so I'm not sure.

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO many other restaurants - skip Chef Mickey's.

We were at Chef in February and I don't think the food is the greatest but my 2 nephews (4 & 6) loved it the atmosphere with the charecters. It actually was Valentines Day when were there and even with our PS we waited 30 minutes.

I had a nice salad, baked chicken which was very juicy, and some veggies. The kids ate from the kids buffet Mac & Cheese and the also ate the prime rib. The kids usually like the make your own ice cream sundae....they also have fresh fruit which our kids loved.

This is what we usually ...we park our car at the contemporary, go to Chef Mickeys, take the monorail over to MK go on a few rides and then see Wishes, we take our time to walk out. Since we parked at the Contemporary the monorail is not usually full and there is not a LONG wait to get on the Monorail. It usually works out great!! :cool1:

Maybe we're weird, but we really like Chef Mickeys, even for the food! It's not gourmet dining, but we know that going in so we don't expect it. What they serve is fresh and hot and plentiful and rather tasty! The desserts are great!

Even without kids, I think we'd still go. It's a must for the kids though...they really love it there!!

One note on parking at the Contemporary (or maybe its a question). Don't they frown on having you park your car at the hotel for dinner and then leave it there while you go to the park? As I recall, on our last trip we had to give them our ps number at the parking lot gate and got some voucher or something that was only good for like two hours. Seems like if very many people parked their car there for very long that lot would really fill up and not have enough spots for the guests staying at the hotel. And to answer the question, we thought the food was good at both breakfast and dinner. If I was paying for the food only I might not think it was superb but the atmosphere was so great the food seemed just as wonderful!

We were there in Dec. Food was average at best. I was unimpressed with the character interaction as well. We sat around waiting for characters to come by and stay long enough to sign DD autograph book and pose for a picture. Had much better interaction at Liberty Tree Tavern and the ice cream social. We actually were finished eating and sat about 30 minutes waiting for the rest of the characters to get to us. We won't be heading back there.

wow, thanks for all the replies, ali we do have kids 7 & 9, the reason I was thinking of chef mickeys was to have a meal that was child friendly in a hotel where we could see wishes after the meal for a different view. After reading the posts, I really don't think I'll bother. thanks all. :flower:
