I have never eaten at Chef Mickey but are thinking of trying dinner there on our next trip. Any opinions?

Our kids loved Chef Mickey's and the food was pretty good. It didn't have anything too exciting on the buffet line, but good quailty food that you felt like you could get your money's worth. The dessert bar was really good.

I like CM's dinner buffet, but I think their breakfast is even better.

When my kids were told to choose one character meal for this trip, they immediately said Chef Mickey dinner. It is pretty basic food, but it's good. I also like the dessert bar....it's one of the few times on the trip that I will indulge my sweet tooth:).

I liked the breakfast better, but it is a great character meal. We had a lot of fun. I'm sure you will have a great time.

we actually just got back from eating at chef mickeys on thursday, and we had a 8:35 reservation, we stayed till 9 or so and watched the wishes fireworks from the front of the contemporary hotel! The food was AWESOME and the characters were friendly. After I accidently broke a chair because goofy scared me, they pulled my into the middle of the restaurant and we danced. It was so much fun and we really enjoyed it!

Chef Mickey's was our first character meal-The characters were great, and the food was pretty good too!!!:thumbsup2

Thanks for the opinions so far. We don't want to do breakfast because we really aren't breakfast people. I am thinking dinner. What foods were offered?

IMHO, the food is not that good but you can't beat the character interaction at Chef Mickey's!

My family and I have had dinner there a few times. While we thought the selection of food was better at Boma, it was not horrible and we enjoyed ourselves.

We did CM for the first time last week. It was better than I expected. It seems people either love it or hate it.
Nothing was spectacular. My DH loved the red beans and sausage and rice, my mom loved the ravioli and I loved the mashed potatoes and turkey. The beef was just so/so. Regular buffet beef like at a wedding I'd say.
The desserts were great and we tried all of them!
Characters were great too!

DH and I love Chef Mickey's, so I think it's worth giving it a try. The food quality and selection is really good, and the characters make it more fun. We used CM's as one of the restaurants before our wedding and our 20 guests were pleasantly surprised and had a great time. Be sure to save room for dessert, I always forget! *note to self  *

Chef Mickey's is a tradition we do each time we're at WDW but unfortunately the food wasn't as good the last time we were there (Jan. 2008). We'll give it another shot when we're there in two weeks. Of course, the atmosphere and character interaction is part of what we love but if the food isn't very good this time we will probably consider trying a different character dinner next time.

OK I'll be the one to be the negative nellie - I think the food stinks!

But it's not about the food to me, it's great character interaction in the classic setting of the contemporary - so it's worth it.

The food? Gross!!!!!

We did CM dinner once and the character interaction was awesome but the food was terrible

This is exactly why there are different restaurants with different "flavors"! My family loves Chef Mickey's. We've done both breakfast and dinner and truly enjoyed both! We like it because it is, what we call, more "regular" food. Roast pork/beef/turkey, parm mashed potatoes, yummy soup of the day (I could eat my fill of the soup alone!), salad bar, veggies the kids will eat, the salmon was to die for, :thumbsup2 and of course, the dessert bar! My family will not eat adventurous ... Boma is way too out there for them ... they just will NOT try things that are in any way different. DH is even included in this, he doesn't eat casseroles or anything that has been combined. So we truly love CM's! The food, the dancing, the whirling napkins and singing! We always have a blast there! :woohoo:

I prefer breakfast over dinner at Chef Mickey's. The food was better for breakfast IMO. I didn't like many of the deserts...the oreo with chocolate mickey ears wasn't my cup of tea, neither was the chocolate/peanut butter desert (I can't classify it..it's not a cake, pie or pastry...kinda fudge-like but not quite). The mashed potatoes were good as was the soup. I don't think many people go there for the food, though. The character interaction can't be beat! :) There is some construction going on around Chef Mickey's and they have a temporary wall erected that takes away from the atmosphere.

I think the character interaction is good. The food - well, it's just okay. It depends on what time you get there. I've mentioned in other posts, that my family seems to come when the food is cold, hard, and picked over. We end up having to wait until new trays come out (which is a good thing). It's worth trying, though. Everyone has different opinions. My kids love to go because of the monorail. They barely eat at all. So, essentially, it's not worth the cost for our family.

:)
