We are going to WDW in 2002 and want to do the Chef Mickey breakfast or dinner. We thought after a 3 hour flight with 3 children we would hang around the hotel for the afternoon and then do the dinner. But we dont know if we have to use a day on our hopper pass. Do we have to use one of our days on our hopper pass if we are only doing the meal? How do we get to the Contemporary from the ASMo resort? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.:bounce: :) :)

This is a perfect plan! No, you don't have to use a pass day to go to Chef Mickey's since it's in the Contemporary hotel and not in the parks. It's a WONDERFUL way to get into the Disney spirit without going into the parks. After you eat you can ride the monorail around and see the castle and the EPCOT ball from a distance. The monoral goes right through the Contemporary hotel and some of the others. You can get off the monorail and walk around the hotels, even if you're not staying there. (We love to wander in the Grand Floridian.) There are two separate monorail lines...one for the resorts and one for the parks. Take the resort monorail to the Ticket and Transportation Center (TTC) and then switch to the park line to see the castle and the ball.

If it's a night that there are fireworks in the Magic Kingdom (MK) you can go to the roof of the Contemporary and get a great view from there. Just go up to the California Grill restaurant on the top floor and ask the host to show you where the observation deck is. (They are happy to.)

To get there from All Star Movies you can either take a bus to the Magic Kingdom and then walk or take the monorail to the Contemporary, or drive to the Contemp if you have a car. Tell the guard that you're going to Chef Mickey's and they'll let you into the parking lot.

We took my DS (2) there in March to have breakfast with Mickey and we had some wonderful video and pictures made from that. They really go out of their way to make it a special event.

Barb D was absolutely correct about taking the mono-rail from the Magic Kingdom to the Contemporary. My DS really loved the "train" (monorail) ride. If you have an adventurous spirit you can take the bus to Epcot and take the monorail from there to the TTC and take another monorail to the Contemporary from there. It is a neat experience even if it takes a little longer.

I hope you all have a good time on your trip!

Another bit of advice: to get back to your hotel, you would take the bus back to ASMo either from EPCOT, MK or TTC. However, if the parks are closed when your meal is over you might have more trouble. We got "stuck" at the Contemporary because of this, however our PS was VERY late, like 9:30pm. Our choices were $15 cab ride back to ASMo or bus from Contemp to PI to ASMo. We took the bus and it wound up taking about 45 minutes. We should have taken the rental car to start with! None of this will cost you a Hopper day.
