My friends are going to chef mickeys for dinner in September they are celebrating 2 birthdays whilst there. I have heard that they can get free birthday cupcakes, signed birthday cards, personalised placemats and the characters/ cast members sing happy birthday to them.

Can you let me know how to make sure this happens. What do we need to do. Want to make sure they have a really special time!

All extras that a restaurant does are just that, extras. There is no way to ensure that you get some/all of those things. I can say that the most common things are the Birthday Cupcake and the signed place mat. Cards are once and a while and Characters singing is very rare. For any/all of these extra touches of pixie dust, you just note the birthday on the reservation and mention "we're celebrating ________'s birthday today" at the podium when you check in.

You can always order a podium cake when you check in or order a custom birthday cake ahead of time. It's probably the only way to make sure that something happens.

Hope that your friends have a magical trip!

My oldest daughter, now 11, has celebrated her birthday at Chef Mickey's for breakfast twice. (Last time was in 2/11) We put in 'celebrating birthday' when we made the ADR online. The serving staff comes around with free cupcakes for all the people celebrating stuff at the same time, and some type of celebration music is played. I think it's at the same time as the characters are doing a dance thing and guests swing their napkins around. We've never gotten a placemat or card at Chef Mickey's. We did get a placemat at Cinderella's Happily Ever After (1900 park fare) in 4/10; and a birthday tiara there in 2/09. Since these things are freebies they can be hit or miss. Free cupcakes still seem to be standard, but I will say that the size of them has decreased dramatically in the past few years...it used to be a huge cupcake that the 4 of us could split, now it's a small cupcake. I can't complain for free, and I just hope they will continue giving out free birthday cupcakes--it's a little touch of Disney magic.

a birthday celebration last month. There was a cupcake toward the end. The celebrant had a different color napkin. When the normal napkin waving parade occurred the characters were able to pick birthday celebrants fairly easy. The characters also played up the birthday a little when they came around to the tables. Both Goofy and Mickey have eight fingers. My daughter was turning eight and they took notice of that and counted on their fingers.

A few years ago my family and I celebrated my Dad's Birthday at Chef Mickey's and right away we told our server about it. Well later on Goofy brought him out a Cupcake which we thought was very nice.

We're doing Chef Mickey's for DD4's 5th bday next month. In my research, the cupcake is the most common/most likely thing you'll get. I've scoured the videos on YouTube and it's really hit or miss as to the level of attention you get. You may get lucky and a character may be ready to come to your table just as you're getting ready to sing happy birthday, but that's just it- luck. Since there are no guarantees as to what will be done, if anything, I've designed a fancy cake that will delivered during our meal at Chef Mickey's. We're also dressing DD4 in really pouffy bday attire and custom ears just to add to the day for her. While we're taking these measures on our own ensure she has an above average bday experience, a few people have told me that going above and beyond like this can increase your odds of more special treatment...but still- no guarantees.

Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences and advice I will keep my fingers crossed for them :)
