Chef Mickey and making DME

We have an ADR for Chef Mickey at 10:20 am on 11-15. Our flight home leaves at 4:25. I have been told that DME is scheduled to pick you up approx. three hours before your flight. I figure we will be scheduled for DME around 1. Are we going to have enough time to do Chef Mickey and make it back to our resort (Pop) in time to make our DME pick-up time?

I think you might be cutting it a bit close because since Chef Mickey's is a very popular location you might not get seated right at 10:25 AM, so if that happens it would mean a longer wait and is that something you want to risk taking a chance on?

The good news is that since Chef Mickeys is a buffet, you can do it quickly if need be. If you are running late, plan to take a cab back to POP instead of monorailing over to MK and then taking the bus back to POP.

Would it really be faster to get a cab if we are running late? Woudln't it take more time to call a cab and wait for it to show up than to take the monorail or walk back to MK then ride the bus?

Nope...there are plenty of cabs waiting out front. Don't forget, sometimes the buses take 20 minutes to arrive.

Incase there are no cabs waiting out front just go to the bell stand because they will call one for you and it should be there within a few minutes.

Is there any reason you couldn't catch ME at the Contemporary?

If you scheduled it before hand, I wouldn't think it would be a problem. What were you planning on doing with your bags while at the Contemporary? Were you going to leave them with Bell Services at Pop or are you traveling on a participating airline and planning on checking them at the resort?

I haven't done this, or even asked about it before, just thinking out loud and wondering if it would be possible.

You have to take ME from your own resort. So that wouldn't work. But good thought though

I think you'd make it. Check out of your room & check your bags w/ ME. Leave your carry ons with Bell Services. Catch a bus to MK & walk to CM. I'd arrive by 10:00 and hope to be seated early. If you finish by 11:15, walk to MK and take the bus back to Pop. (The MK bus stops are between Mk & CR, so walking is fastest.) If you're running late from b/fast, just take a cab back to Pop. Remember, you need to be at the ME bus stop 15 minutes before your pick up as sometime ME is early & doesn't wait.

you should be fine! Agree with the take a cab back to Pop, remove that anxiety of waiting for the bus to bring you back. At the deluxe resorts there are always taxis lined up or just out of sight.

You will probably get a 1:30 DME return time and should be finished at CM's by noon. Just be sure to check out and have bell service take your luggage before leaving Pop.

Do the cabs take credit/debit cards or should I have cash? We will have an almost two yar old with us...will we be alowed to take a cab with no carseat?

The last time we took a cab, it was cash only. It may vary by cab type. I'd have cash just in case. Carseats aren't required with cabs. Personally, I think you'll be able to take the bus, unless CM is really backed up. By walking over to the MK, you won't have to transfer.

It all depends . . .

1) DME luggage check-in is 5:00am-1:00pm.
2) You should check the luggage before you leave for breakfast.
3) If you don't check luggage before breakfast,
. . . you will need to get back by 12:30pm
. . . go to room
. . . take luggage to airport check-in
. . . check-in before they leave for home
3) If you do not check luggage early, you may have to take on the bus.
4) Then, you do the luggage check-in at the airport, yourself.

NOTE: DME buses DO NOT wait for you. They are on a schedule. If they start to wait an extra few minutes her-and-there, the schedule gets way off for later in the day/night. If you are not on the bus at the appointed time, transportation to the airport in on your own. The resort can call a cab, but that will be about $65-$75, including tip.

I guess I should mention that we will not have any luggage to check. We are going to do all carry-ons. I was planning on checking out prior to leaving for CM's and leaving our carry-on bags at the desk. Will that effect what time we should be back at Pop?

Nope. Because you don't leave them at the desk. They have a luggage room where everyone stores their bags. The issue is that if there is a long line of people getting their bags, you may need to wait.

Thanks to all of you for your advice. I guess we will hope that we will make it back to Pop by bus, but be ready to take a cab if necessary. Does anyone have an idea of how much that would cost?
