Cheerleading is on ESPN alot.

I was watching a competition last sunday on ESPN

Ok, then it's a sport. But I don't believe it is a contact sport. There was just a Supreme Court case saying cheerleading is a contact sport, but I disagree. I think of football and hockey to be contact sports.

oh its contact all right! hahha

when we were lifting my flyer she like went crooked and hit me in the chest wuith her butt. i was knocked out for like 15 minutes hahhhah

you go girll!
your my cheerleader!

and the only cheerleaders ive seen that are B*tch*s are the ones in moveiss. my opinion!

Apparently you havent met the cheerleaders at my school...
There controlled by the two most b*t*hiest girls mom at my school...
there mom is the most stuck up lady you will ever meet
She only picks girls for the team who are friends with her daughters...
Its actually quite a jock at my school...

It's not like a sport where you tackle or check. I consider sport anything to do with exerting energy. In cheerleading; you throw people in the air,do bacflips kartwheels etc.,run around, and much more. So, I consider it a sport.

Same thing happened to me!! haha
The flyer landed on my head because the other base lifted to high :headache:. Good thing the flyer was only like 80 pounds haha.

I back spot alot and we had this REALLY strong front spot this one time (i have no clue why my coach put her there?) so she pulled up with all her strength and my bases are really little so the fly fell flat on my face :O

she straightened my nose out though xD
i always like break my nose & it was allll the way to one side & her but fixed it xD

No, it's not. Some of my best friends that are girls are cheerleaders. One was on a team that finished 3rd in the nation two years ago. Yet, she's not stuck up or snobby at all. It's just the sterotype they receive from ignorant people who don't actually know them.

Stagework a sport? Now we're getting ridiculous.

Preforming arts is in its own category. It's not in the same category as sports.

Ditto.
One of my friends is a cheerleader. She's also battling cancer and an honor student. I've met down-to-earth cheerleaders, and I've met snobby cheerleaders. Most of the girls on my school's cheer team are very down to earth people. Wanna know how I know? Because I actually got to know them.

For anyone who says competitive cheerleading isn't contact? Get real. Did you know cheerleading is one of the major causes of broken necks? I wanna see you lift and throw a 100 pound girl and catch her. It's not as easy as it looks. And before anyone asks, yes I was a cheerleader.

My opinion?
Competitive? Absolutely a sport.
Sideline? No.

like everyone else said. Competitive is.. but sidelines aren't. and the reason why a lot of people DONT think its a sport is because they're just basing it off of sidelines. ppl just dont understand.

Cheer is lots of broken bones and lots of bruises. I've seen bruises on some girls that look like straight up abuse!
But no, it's from their flyer falling on them! Shocking really! I just think to myself "To get a bruise rivaling hers, I'd have to be hit with a wooden fielc hockey stick over and over and over again!"
