After reading posts about POP WARNER in December is seriously making me reconsider my trip in January. We will be @ POP during the 2 cheer competitions and dont really feel like putting up with a bunch of obnoxious teenagers, and a horrible bus service.
Has anyone been to WDW or even POP during these competitions in JANUARY?? Is it as bad as POP WARNER week???
Thanks

My daughter does the cheer competitions and I'd rather perform eye surgery on myself than do that again. now that we live here, my wife drives her over and they don't even bother trying the parks. :D

There were cheer competitions when we were there last February and it didn't affect us at all. We did stay at AKL though, so maybe those staying at the All Stars would feel differently. We saw some groups of girls in the parks, and made sure never to get on line behind them, but they weren't bothersome. All of the girls we encountered were well behaved.

There seems to be many in the next few months...Just a couple that I found out about:
Jan 14-17 2005 College Cheerleading & Dance Team National Championship
Feb 25-27 All Star Contest of Champions Nationals
March 11-16 National All Star Cheerleading Championship
March 16-21 AmeriCheer International Competition
March 18-20, 2005 All-American Spring Floor National Championships

We have encountered cheer and dance competitons each 1st week of February for the past 2 years. The only "problem" came when a couple of cheer girls would be in line for a ride (mind you lines at the first week in february are minimal) and other cheer girls would join in making the line sometimes double after them joining their friends. Other than that minor blip nothing else of note.

That's why we never got in line behind any of them, LOL. We actually joked that the cheerleaders were the ONLY lines, the parks were so uncrowded otherwise, LOL. :cheer2:

we were there last january during the time there were many many cheerleading groups, they all seemed to travel together, they usually wore matching tops and they were annoying.... oh, the most annoying thing was that if you were in line behind even one or two of them, the WHOLE group would cut in line to be with them....other than that we were never on the same resort buses as them, we were at coronado springs, they must have been at the all stars??

I think so. Our local high school cheerleaders went last year and they stayed at the AS, I think it was Movies.

We saw them a couple of years ago in Dec and they were all well beaved and even sung Christmas carols on the boat on the way to DD. Looks like if we see any they will be college competitors, I am not sure if that is a good or bad thing! This will be our first time in January and we will be at POFQ for 2 nights and then OKW so I doubt we will have any staying with us!

It is the National Dance Team Jan 30-Feb 3 and the National High School Cheerleading championships Feb 6-10th. I don't know which one will be worse?!? I'm debating on whether or not to keep my vacation as is (Feb 1-10th) or change it to Jan 25-Feb 3. At least if I change it I will only be there with one of these groups, if I stay with the reservation I currently have I will have the joy of being there for both!!!

We usually get the Pop Warner schedule of events from Guest Relations and visit the parks when we know they are in competition!!! :earboy2:

Guess we'll be there for the National Dance Team crowd. Thats ok. At this time of year its easy to avoid them. I'm still anticipating low crowds. But we are staying at Movies and if they get annoying or cram the buses, we have our car and can drive to the parks. No biggie, or at least I hope not. LOL Cheerleading would be worse I assume since I've heard they practice alot in the courtyards. Dancers aren't as loud. My oldest DD would probably love to meet some of them, since she is in a dance twirl team herself. And I bet DH will love to see all those pretty girls walking around. This is my once a year vacation to the best place on earth and I won't let anything ruin it. Even a bad day in Disney is a better day than snowy cold Pittsburgh.

My DD has been to WDW for dance team Nationals and they spent all their time at WWoSp. Maybe it was only their group but they didn't have much time (or energy left) for the parks. They were in practice or at the competition most of the day and had a strict curfew. (They were at the All Star Music.) HS Nationals is a HUGE deal if you are a dancer or cheerleader. I can't speak for other groups but I don't even think our girls realized there was a theme park out there.

That's what I figured. They will be too busy to really enjoy the park. They want to perfect their routine and will spend every waking moment practicing and planning. I would assume though that when competition is over for the particular group they then would hit the parks, but at that time of year its certainly not going to affect crowd levels too much. Is your DD going again this year?

I went during some kind of Dance/Cheer thing in January/Feb of 2000 so it was a while ago. We were at Caribbean Beach and there were some there as well. We never had a problem with them and it was quiet and they were just like any normal vacation type group.

I got the unfortune luck of going when Pop Warner was this year and let me tell you they are 7,000,000 times worse then any of the dance/cheer people we saw in 2000.

:cheer2: SO TRUE! :cheer2: I'd much rather have Disney with dancers and cheerleaders than Pittsburgh with snow and sleet. ;)

Of course, I arrive on Superbowl Sunday...who would've guessed that the Steelers would have a shot at the Superbowl when I chose those dates, LOL. Maybe I'll be there to wave to "Big Ben" in the MK's MVP parade on Monday! ~* GO STEELERS!!! *~ :cool1:

We encounter cheer and dance teams every year as we go in Feb. Personally they have never been "obnoxious" or anything other than polite. We always make a point to talk to them in lines, resturants etc. and they are very interesting. I guess original poster just doesn't like teens in general. I am glad we see them.
