I can help with the meals ~ my youngest DD is now 12 but when she was still 11 we were sometimes asked her age, especially at buffets, so they knew whether to charge the child price for her or not. I never had to show proof of her age, it was always accepted even though she was looked older than she was.
Of course it's up to you, but I would never pretend my DDs were younger than they were as not only is it teaching them to be dishonest but imagine if you were asked how old they were, you said 2 and your child said no, I'm 3!!

That happened to us 23 years ago. We got in a taxi and the driver said there were too many of us, as my nephew counted as a person, even though he was on my sisters lap. She said he was only 2 and the taxi driver started off.
"But I am 3 now, Mummy, aren't I? I've just had my birthday, haven't I? I am 3, aren't I?"
That's another reason I wouldn't be able to do it, my kids would definitely say something

It's not just a case of getting caught though, it's the more far reaching consequences if god forbid something awful happened and you become involved in legal or insurance claims, it wouldn't look good if you'd lied and would probably prejudice any case.
Never had a problem in restaurants at all though, DS was offered the Child Menu at Cafe Mickey and Sequoia Lodge, which we turned down as he wanted to order from the adult menu when he was 13, at LN we were charged for a child and who am I to argue.
