I have made it a habit now to check the hire car upon collection.
look out for any scratches, dents etc and ask the hire firm to make a note on your sheet.

On the last two occassions the return has resulted in the hire company trying to claim i was responsible. Luckily I had the document to say I wasnt.

Not easy to remember after a long flight but will save alot of hassle later on.

enjoy!!!!!

Yes - very good advice :) . My DH always remembers to do this and gets them to note anything before we drive away.

Yes, DH and I always do the 'rental-car crouch' around our vehicle before we drive off. :teeth:

The biggest problem is trying to see properly in those dark multi-storey parking lots! Do you think that's a deliberate ploy? LOL

This is great advice

Also dont forget to check the spare wheel/tyre as we didnt and we got a puncture in the middle of nowhere. Long story.... LOL

Thats great advice i wouldn't of thought twice about getting in the car and just driving off i'll be so excited :Pinkbounc but i'm sure DH will of thought of that:rolleyes:

Hi

Yes another vote for checking the car out before driving off. DH & I always check. We've always been lucky but you can never be too careful when you here some of the stories.

Yep Dp has done this everytime, when we first went with my Brother and his Wife they told us to do this, as you never know, so we point everything out before we set off!
Better being safe than sorry!! ;)
But good job for pointing that out to others ;)

Last year, the car they wanted to give me had a number of cigarette burns in the upholstery. Despite my teenage children's protests that they could live with it for a fortnight (they were desperate to get going of course) I insisted that it was changed. My feeling was that if the previous hirers had been so careless(?!) then heaven knows what else I may have found during the next few weeks. It was most unlike me but I rejected the next car too because of some exterior damage (perhaps the first car had made me extra careful - and can you imagine my children's desperation now). The third car fortunately was great (same model) and when I apologised for being a nuisance the staff (aren't they great - usually) said that the most important thing was that I was happy with everything and wished me a fantastic holiday. I duly obliged.:)

I suppose the moral of my story is - don't be embarrassed about rejecting a car you are not happy with. The staff I experienced were very keen to ensure that I was delighted with their service.
