When we check into the Poly in February, we will be getting there around 8:30 a.m. I sure hope this will give us a better chance of getting a 3rd floor room in Figi.

Rooms are assigned 2-3 days prior to your arrival so when you get to the resort has no bearing on having your requests met. And with the advent of Bypass The Front Desk and people getting their room numbers texted to them before they even arrive on Site, they have affectively eliminated people being able to switch rooms. Unless a room you want is going to be vacant during your stay.

I agree with dansdad this usually has no bearing at all on where your room is going to be located. You can put in room requests until your face turns blue but at the end of the day they are only requests and Disney doesn't have the obligation to fulfill your requests.

The only time that really makes a difference is when your making requests for King size beds or paying the extra for a specific view. When I went on my honeymoon in may and stayed at CR I requested close to the elevators and an odd numbered room so I could see wishes from our bed and I got close to the elevators but an even numbered room.

At the end of the day it doesn't make that much of a difference I don't think. I'd just be happy to be staying at the Poly :-)

Even if you are texted a room #, you still can stop at the front desk and inquire if there is a different room available if you do not like your current one. We will be driving next month and if we are texted, believe me, we will jump on our laptop and look at the location while in route:D

Stop by the front desk when you arrive and tell them again you want a 3rd floor room in Fiji. As long as you are willing to wait until one is ready for you, they will do their best to accommodate you.
3rd floor Fiji is one of our favs too. :)

Well if I can't get a 3rd floor in Figi, I wouldn't mind a 1st floor in Figi or a 1st floor in Aoteara. So I would be really surprised if we were to get a text by 8-8:30 in the morning with our room number.

And for that matter I would be surprised if they sent out that many texts with room assingments that early in the morning to all the guest checking in each day.

I would still think that arriving very early in the morning could still possibly give a person a little extra advantage as to room request.

I doubt it adds any benefit. You're checking in before people check out for the day and open up more rooms to fulfill those requests.

Correct. But I would think and have read others thoughts as the same, that they will assign request as in the order they are received when people physically check in, for the most part.(If they want to change their room) I doubt a room that would fit my request would be ready then, but I think I could it could better my chances. I mean, they know who is checking out each day and what room they are in. I do not at all expect to have my room number at check in. But I can make sure that my request are noted very early in the morning.

They assign rooms a few days in advance & priority is given to the oldest reservations.

I have read that rooms are assigned a few days in advance, but in my 10 years on the Dis, I have never read anything about oldest reservations. But that is interesting.

It's something my dad was told years ago by a CM. He was curious about how the process worked. Of course, things could have changed since. :)

I also found a reference to it here at AllEars.

No matter how much you might wish it, arriving early isn't going to help you get your request. Rooms are assigned well before you arrive, and changes are made based on what is open AFTER you get a room ready text. Your best bet for getting your request is to make it before rooms are assigned. Even then, it isn't a sure thing. Sometimes you just have to take what you get.

Oh ya, I will be putting in what request I want, no doubt. Do you by chance have any first hand knowledge about changes being made only after a room ready text is sent? I would think that there are just no that many texts that go out real early in the morning unless you were to put down first available as an option.
I guess I am just thinking that when we arrive, we will not get our room number, but will have one assigned to us, and after I make more formal request in person, maybe they will be able to change me to a location I prefer.

I know when we stayed at POR, I requested ground floor, AB. Didn't get it. But they were able to change us to a ground floor in AB once we got there. Does anybody fax request to the resorts anymore? Do they take those seriously?

POR and POFQ are the only resorts that read every faxed room request. They read them all, but that doesn't mean the requests are always granted. The other resorts will read the faxed requests but only when the room assigners have down time. They are not a priority except at POR and POFQ. It's still best to call the main reservations line and add any room requests to your reservation. At least you're guaranteed the assigner will see them.

Well my TA will have to make any calls I suppose. Wonder why the faxes are only a priority at POR and POFQ?

I've always wondered that too. Years ago all the resorts stopped accepting faxes, they would go right into the garbage. All except POR and POFQ. Eventually people stopped sending the faxes at all the other resorts which is what they wanted. Now with the start of the Touring Plans fax request service they've been getting faxes again. They don't like it, but do look at them if they have down time. But other than POR and POFQ I wouldn't rely on a fax being read.

Ok, I won't bother then. Unless we end up staying at POFQ. Which could be possible.

We've been using the fax service offered by Touring Plans. At all resorts. We are having a lot of luck with them assigning us rooms exactly like the one in the fax request. In most cases the features of the room are not features included in the online check in, such as a King Bed. So while common knowledge is only the Orleans Resorts read faxes I believe there is either a change or TP has a different source. Because those faxes are being considered. The odds of every room we've stayed in since using this service just happened to being read by someone during the down time is small. We've had 8 rooms in 8 different resorts. If only a small number were read surely all our requests wouldn't have been met

Yes, even though you are assigned a room prior to arrival it's not "yours" until you are in it. It's possible things are found during the cleaning process that mean it can't be occupied. This happened to us at YC last May. The CM checking us in told us our room number and floor but said it wasn't ready. When we got our room it was different, there was something wrong in the original room.

I have been told by several front desk CM's at checkin that they cannot make changes to room assignments until the room is officially assigned to us, which happens when it is ready to be occupied. How early you get there has no bearing on when the previous occupants vacate the room, or when it is cleaned and ready for a new occupant. Getting there early will not help you get your request.
