Do dvc stays ever get sprinkled with pixie dust or is that only for cash folks? Like a room upgrade at an anniversary or candy for your child's bday? I have heard stories like this from cash folks but don't know if I have from dvc'ers. Just curious if it happens.

I only had enough points for a standard view at AKV but we ended up in the standard/savannah room section. It seems there's a section of rooms that overlook a corral and DVC took it out of the savannah view inventory and made them standard rooms instead. Our view was amazing.

We were upgraded from a savannah view studio to a savannah view one-bedroom. That was when Kidani first opened, and they had overbooked studios in anticipation of more being completed. It was a nice surprise!

We had a simular thing happen in March were we booked a std view and got a nice Savannah view instead. It was a lot of fun to see the animals in the mourning and at feed time.

Room upgrades only happen when their is an inventory problem. It is a rare thing. The savannah views mentioned are due to the rooms being standard view with a limited savannah not upgrading for the most part. If you ask for an upgrade them may give it you but expect your points to be taken for it as well. It isn't right to the membership as a whole to give upgrades.

In January at BWV, I booked a standard view 1 bedroom with points. When we arrived, we learned we had an outstanding cash balance! No, we didn't have to pay it! We were upgraded to a pool view and could have had daily housekeeping. So, whatever happened to our original room reservation, I don't know. I wasn't charged additional points, and we enjoyed the view and for once, I wasn't all the way down the long hallway!:rotfl:

Our upgrade experience:
1. Once cause of over booking at VWL:
Booked a studio at VWL, when we tried to check-in, we had been upgraded to a WL 2 bedroom lake view suite. Called some family members to come and join us for an unexpected vacation.
2. Once cause of problem with check-in at AKL:
Booked a standard view studio at AKL-Jambo, checked-in, given a room key as the room was suppose to be ready, went to the room, and found suitcases and purse in the room along with the room not being made up. Went back to the front desk, they gave us an on-the-spot upgrade to a savanna view room in another part of the resort plus four free breakfasts.
3. DCL
We reserved an inside stateroom but were upgraded to an ocean view room. We did not find out about the upgrade until we got to the room, what a surprise that was.
4. AKL-Jambo
Booked standard view room at 5 days out, due to a last minute change in home plans. Given a Savanna View room.

I'm not looking to get anything. I was more just curious if they did special things for dvc when they check in. Sometimes for cash visits they send up candy for an anniversary or balloons for a birthday. So I have heard anyway. I am not the type of person who ever receives these types of things. Ever. Haha!!

My wife and I got anniversary pins at checkin. ;) They were obviously ready ahead of time since we noted we were celebrating our anniversary when we made our ressie. Mickey left us an anniversary message on our phone too.

As far as balloons or other pixie dust, the only time we've experienced that was over 10 years ago when DS was celebrating a birthday. A signed photo of Mickey and Minnie and a small balloon bouquet was left in our room. We were staying on points.

When we stayed at GCV last year, we got balloons and buttons for being first timers - it was DH and DD's first time and I hadn't been since I was 3! Received them at check-in - it was really nice! We also had *the* *perfect* 5th floor theme park view studio with an awesome view of World of Color! And we booked at 7mo - so I certainly considered that some serious pixie dust! :cool1:

This year I had noted that we were celebrating our anniversary on our reservation (or was it on-line checking) for a pre-cruise 3-night stay, and we got Anniversary pins in our checkin docs, and we got an anniversary card signed by Mickey under our door one day. :thumbsup2

Our one-night post-stay in a 1Bdrm in Kidani was pretty normal - though we had an *awesome* 2nd floor savannah view room that wasn't too far from the lobby. Interestingly enough, we had yellow/gold KTTW cards. :confused3 Had no idea why - the lady at check-in didn't say anything about them being special or anything (and there's no concierge at Kidani so no idea why they'd have the stock there at all). Found out when I got home and searched the boards that they can also indicate VIP and special treatment! We didn't get any that I'm aware of. We did head over to Jambo for dinner at Mara - we should have tried the cards in the elevator to see if we could get to the concierge lounge, but I didn't even think to do it when we were there! :rotfl2:

So pixie dust is still possible - for things like views within a category, etc. I think if you note celebrations on your reservation, you're just as likely to get special treatment as someone on cash - most likely because that info tends to go to the same people regardless of reservation type. We've had plenty of past DVC stays where DD (when younger) had gotten ballons or pins or stickers at check-in or from other CMs in the DVC resort, and plenty of DVC and cash stays with little to no extra magic at check-in.

Cool, thanks everyone! We will most likely never experience that kind of thing but I just had to ask :)

We stayed at AKV Concierge for a friend's birthday and they delivered a small cake one night.

When we stayed in AKV CL last summer, there was a nice Animal Kingdom cooler bag waiting in the room for us when we checked in.

WOW! Can we vacation with you??? You're covered in pixie dust! LOL! :pixiedust:

I haven't had any DVC pixie dust yet, but on our Disneymoon trip, our South Wing room at the Contemporary was upgraded to one of the corner suites. Completely spoiled us with how much room we had in there!

During the sea portion of that same trip, we met the cruise director while we were checking out the clubs. We told her we were on our Honeymoon, and she told us she hoped we had a great time. When we got back to our room that evening, there was a bottle of Disney Dream-labeled Taittinger champagne waiting for us in our room, with a lovely note from the cruise director.

We also shared a little pixie dust of our own. By some mistake (either ours or the gift company) we ended up with two picnic kits in our stateroom during that cruise. It could be that one of the packages we bought had one and it wasn't clear, but regardless, we had no use at all for two of them. So we took it to the front desk, told them what happened, and said, "Can you pick another honeymooning couple on the ship and give it to them?" Felt good to pay it forward a bit. :)

Add your celebration info to your reservation, sometimes you may get a button or maybe a balloon. I wouldn't say that it's the norm.

DVC owners are guaranteed frequent guests, cash guests tend to get the extras.
