Checking in New Years Day SSR

We have reservations at SSR, 2 bedroom starting New Years day for 12 days. When I made our travel plans I was thinking most people would be checking out on January 1st as it is a Sunday and we would have a good chance of a wide selection of rooms.....I wasnt thinking that Monday would be a holiday and many people may stay that extra night. Therefore, making the selection of rooms to check into very slim. Am I right to assume this?

Should I change plans to be able to check in a day later?

Just thought I would ask the experienced travellers

Sunday to thursday are the least amount of points, so chances are others will be checking in then as well. Maybe b/c it is January 1 it might not be that bad. At least I'm not the only one planning 11 months in advance!

We are checking into OKW on one reservation Dec. 31 nd checking out and backin on a 2 bedroom reservation Sunday Jan. 1st. Not sure what that means, but I assume the holiday folks will mostly be leaving then and the after holiday folks will be arriving. When we have been to DVC that time in the past, the crowd does seem to turn over a lot on Sunday.

We're checking into BCV on 1/1/06 and staying for 5 nights. Our kids are out of school until the 9th.

NO, dont change your ressies. we were there last new years.
and on new years eve we were at the quiet pool, they had a D.J, family games and free party hats, horns,noise makers . then we sat down by the water and watched the fireworks going off right in front of us, i have never been so close besides the illuminations at epcot for dvc members homecoming. dh thinks the ssr is ok, but he said to make sure if we are there again for new years eve, to make sure we are staying at ssr, its a must do !

We are checking into BCV on Jan. 1 for 7 nights. We have a 2 bedroom dedicated booked. .. just wanted to say hi!

We're checking in at OKW on the Jan. 1 and staying 6 nites. No problem getting the ressie. See you down there.

Have checked in at a DVC resort on 1/1 several times; actually one of the easiest check in days. Note though that with Monday the holiday, you will have huge crowds through Monday -- they will start to leave Monday, but recent years' practice indicates that most people will wait until the next day, this year Tuesday, to leave.

We're scheduled to check into a 2BR at BCV on 1/1/06 as well. I'm now rethinking it.

I didn't think schools would be out until the following week as Shan posted. I wonder how common that will be?

Maybe we'll check in 1/8 instead.

We're planning to book OKW for 1/1 through 1/6 (Shan and I live in the same area).

This is the first year our school system has changed the calendar like this...and I'm loving it! Though I don't think it's typical...our school system has been trying to slowly implement a complete calendar overhaul this year...and this is where they've started. Most schools will still go back on the 2nd or 3rd.
