Checking in Early With A Little One

We are taking an early flight and will get to our resort in WDW by 11am. If I call the hotel the day before, is there any chance that there would be a room ready for us? I'd love to be able to get into our room, get settled and then hit the theme parks. Also I want to stop at Publix, which I could do in the late afternoon if I had to, to get diapers, milk and other baby needs.

Any suggestions on getting this accomplished? Thank you!

I would call CRO and have them note in your reservation that you would like to request an early check in by 11 AM. They will see that when they go to assign rooms. If when you get there that room isn't ready they can always move you to a room that is ready. They will do their best to accomodate you but keep in mind it is a request and you will be fine.

There's also a school of thought that says that you may limit your chances for a better room by checking in early. The thinking is that the room you would get would be one that was vacant the evening before. It seems that the resorts fill the rooms roughly in the order from the best to the less desireable. Therefore the rooms left vacant would tend to be in the less desireable group. Alerting the resort room controller might minimize the chance, however.

Geoff_M is exactly right. If you really don't care which room you'll be assigned, you have a better chance at check-in of getting a room ready. If you're picky about where you want to stay(ie lots of requests), then most likely you'll have to wait. Calling the day before won't help either. All it will do is alert them that you want a room ready by 11AM, but that won't help if the rooms you want are currently occupied by someone who is checking out that next morning.
