Iris- I didn't know about the free pass! Last two times, I went by myself by plane. This time, since I am bringing my car, my mom will be driving down with me (my parents refuses to let me drive alone all the way from PA) and helping me move in. So excited because this will be the first time that she will see the apartments.
It will be nice for your mom to see where you will be living. I was really surprised by the complexes as I have an older daughter in college and her freshman dorm was more like a hallway closet. I have had a chance to see both Vista and Chatham. We drove our daughter down but we had two vehicles because her car is TINY and really didn't hold much in it, plus there were four of us (her sister came to "help") so we had own our luggage plus all of Stephanie's stuff (and yes...she brought WAY too much stuff!).
They will hand out the one-day parking pass when you arrive to Vista for check-in to put on your dash board. It was nice because we had it for both vehicles and my husband made a few runs to Walmart for cleaning supplies and I went to Staples for a wireless router since none of the girls (6 of them) had brought a router with them, lol.
How soon are the CPers able to enter the parks with their new passes?
If possible, it would be nice if she & her little sis were able to ride Rocking Roller Coaster together. Something Mom is no longer able to do!
They will get their Disney ID when they have completed Traditions, which was day three for Stephanie. Her blue maingate pass which allows her to let family into the parks did not arrive until about 3 weeks later in the mail. We had our tickets already so she was able to meet us in the parks after she had finished her training on her fourth day.

Sorry to hear about the accident but I am glad that she wasn't hurt. I know that feeling about being far away. My daughter had a really bad case of strep during her first program and it was difficult for me to be so far away. Her roommate ended up taking her to Centra Care (make sure your kids have an insurance card handy) but she missed a few days of work because of it.
