Checking in car seats!?

Ok so we booked our trip without car hire but have now decided that we might be as well just hiring a car to save us the hassle of trying to get to and from the airport as well as letting me escape Disney on a couple of little (?) shopping expeditions.

When I had mentioned infant car seats on here before someone told me to take my own. My travel agent (who is a friend) is telling me that I can't do this!! Anyone ever checked in an infant car seat whilst flying with Thomas Cook? I can't find any info about it on their website though have emailed them.

TA assures me that Alamo car seats are of decent standard though which was the problem people were voicing on here!

Any thoughts/experiences?

Thanks

Hi

Never flown with TC but have travelled twice to Orlando with our son, once with Delta and the other with Virgin. On both ocassions we have taken our own car seat from home, checked it in with our cases and never had any problems (they give you a large plastic bag at the airport to wrap it in or you could use black bags from home).

We're flying off to LA on Thursday and we will be doing the same again. I believe the hire of car seats from any of the car hire companies is very expensive and as our little man is comfy and familiar with his from home it has always been the best option for us.

Thanks Sarah!! I will see if TC gets back to me, if not I'll phone their customer services and ask. Would hate to end up stuck at Glasgow Airport with a car seat! LOL!!

Do they usually charge you for this?

Hi Mo

We've never be charged for checking in the car seat but can't vouch for TC. We have also taken our little man's travel cot with us each time we've flown and they also carry this for free.

I hope TC are helpful and answer all your queries.

Sarah :)

its normally in your infants baggage allowance, you can normally check in a pushchair or car seat

I posted a similar thread a bit further down the page and was told that you can check the seat in and you don't get charged any extra.
I have decided to take my own seat as we hired a stage 2 car seat when oldest DS was 2 and it took DH over half an hour to fit it as it didn't come with any instructions and was filthy. At least we know that having our own seat it won't have been in an accident previously.
