This was very confusing when my friend first approached me with this, so I am going to try to keep it simple.

4 families are all going together to Disney World next October. All are staying at Pop Century. The reservations are all connected in that we will have 5 separate rooms, but are there as a group. Each room has their own reservation.

3 families will be flying. One family is driving 23 hours down.

Now for my question...The family driving is considering letting their kids, ages 18 and 12, take the plane with us instead of the long car ride. We get there in 3 hours by plane. Once we arrive, can they use Magic express, check into the hotel, or at least get their park tickets and meal vouchers to accompany us in the parks until the parents arrive by car? We are trying to figure things out so the parents arrive around the same time we do, but this is the first time they will be driving so I am trying to plan on what I can do if they are later than we plan. We know anything can happen, car break down, getting lost, ect, so I just want to be prepared on what to do with the kids.

Also for the 12 year old, do I need any documentation for bringing her on the plane or for once we get to Disney at the hotel? I want to say yes to them coming with us, but I don't want to be stuck with them being in the hotel lobby or in my room until the parents show up. It would be perfect if the 18 year old can check them in, get the tickets, and we can just take them to the parks when we're ready

As long as the 18 yo is on the reservation, he/she will be able to check in and get the KTTW cards. He/she will just need a photo ID, but that shouldn't be a problem as that will be needed to go through security at the airport as well. As far as flying is concerned, I would think since the 12 yo will be with an 18 yo sibling that that would be ok, but I would maybe get documentation from the parents just in case. The 12 yo will not need ID, but will probably be asked their age, etc. when going through security (that's what they always did with our DSs when they were younger). HTH :).

Yes, at 18 my dd was able to go ahead and check into the hotel and get all tickets, etc. when she'd arrive early on a different flight from us. An 18 yo is an adult and, although some hotels don't rent to those under the age of 21, Disney does. You'll have no problem.

I've also taken dd's friends with us on a flight many times over the years and never had to provide any kind of documentation. Heck, dd and I don't even have the same last name and no one's ever made a peep about it. ;)

I would advise the family to check with the airlines about the 12 year old flying. And then allow plenty of time to get through security.

When we fly, my daughter often gets asked "Are these your parents?" I think if the answer is no, there's a good chance there's going to be a delay.
