Can someone help me understand the best way to check availability to rent DVC points? Do you have to be DVC owner to see what is available?

Yes, you have to be an owner to see actual availability. You’ll need to find someone with points to rent first, and then have them check availability for you.

Not necessarily on the nose, but the DVC Rental Store *a board sponsor* has an availability calendar. Not sure how often it refreshes.

Depends on what you're looking at and when, really. Once inside 7 months it can be rubbish 5 minutes after they pull the data. Availability is really only as good as your ability to immediately book the unit, regardless of how it is viewed or acquired.
