checking a stroller on the plane. Not gate checking.

Does anyone know if a stroller is counted against your baggage allowance? as I am taking my DD's stroller , but don't want the hassle of that and the car seat in the airport.
Or should I contact the airline directly?

I suspect it depends on the airline - so its probably worth giving them a ring and asking.
When we have travelled it is not counted as part of the baggage allowance.

We always check our car seat. We took it on a plane once.. NEVER AGAIN! it was more hassle than it was worth. Also you have to make sure that the airline will take it on the plane.. so you will need to check with them for that too..

So you are going to carry the car seat but check the stroller at the baggage check? Seems like it is a lot less hassle to use the stroller to transport the car seat to the gate!

And we take our car seat on every flight with us. It is so much safer and more comfortable for DS that it is worth any little bit of hassle to get it there.

On our last trip I used a bungee cord to strap the carseat onto the back of the stroller and just wheeled it through the airport. I hooked the back of the car seat base onto the top of the stroller basket and put the bungee cord through the back where the seat belt would go. It made getting through the airport super easy because I didn't have to carry the seat and my ds still could sit in the stroller. Like the pp said having his car seat on the plane was definitely worth it, and I thought having the stroller at the gate really helped a lot too.

I actually use the car seat as a stroller... I just bungie cord it to a luggage cart and away we go. it is easier to pull it behind me than to push a stroller and get people to move out of the way.. As I have had instances where at my original destination they never put the stroller on the plane.... and I was stuck...
