So I don't know why I felt the need to check my flight. We don't leave until the end of April! But I did and just noticed that they changed our flight time, now we are leaving 2 hours earlier....6am now!! :sad1: Do they do this alot for a flight? This is our first time flying and I don't know how it works. Not looking forwrd to having to get my kids up and out the door at 3:30am now!

Yes, this happens frequently with the legacy carriers. They set the schedules so far in advance that changes in flights are inevitable. I believe that since they changed your flight by two hours you may be able to get them to put you on a later flight with no change fees. I don't remember exactly but I think that the change has to be greater than 45 minutes for this to apply.

Look on the bright side, 6:00AM flights usually depart on time and arrive early. More time to enjoy the magic.

I always try for 6:00am flights when I'm leaving on holidays (never for business trips) because the sooner I'm there, the sooner I'm on vacation. Trust me, your kids won't have any difficulty getting up to go to DW, mine couldn't sleep in the first place so I thought, "we may as well get on the plane."

Yes this is very common ... be glad they didn't add a stopover or two to your itinerary. That happened to us a few years ago. Luckily we were able to change back to the original flight we booked. Just give them a call and see if they can change you to a later flight.

So they did add a stop over and it is 2 hours between the flights and we leave 2 hours earlier so we arrive at the same time in Orlando. :coffee: so if you can change the flights will they charge you the difference? The prices have went up since I booked. :confused3

I was going to ask what airline as well. Delta and United are apparently known for this.

My United flight has changed and since it's "only" 45 minutes they said I can not get on an earlier flight. They told me if the change is 50 minutes or more I could change it without further cost. It may be only 45 minutes but it's causing serious grief to our plans.

My flights times have never been changed by Southwest, Jetblue or Airtran. (Not saying that can't happen.)

I am never flying with Delta or United again.

I think all fo the airlines do this. I travel frequently and from my experience AirTran is the absolutely WORST! For the record, Delta has never changed my flight schedule or time but the last five times someone in my family has been booked on with Airtran have changed. I cringe everytime I have to book Airtran. In fact AirTran did this to us for our upcoming Disney trip. Within one week of booking on a direct flight Airtran changed the schedule and had us on some awful flight with layovers. Fortunately I managed to change dates back to when they were offering a direct flight - that to the help of a Disney CM.

Honestly I think part of it has to do with booking far in advance. The closer you book to your actual travel time the less likely the times are to change - well at least in my experience anyways.

I hope you can work something out.

Yep, exactly what happened to us ... give them a call and see what they can do for you.

I always aim for a flight that leaves at 6 am - gives me more time down there and instead of wasting a day getting there - I am usually there by noon and all checked in by 1:30 - have a little break and then ready to go! Have a great trip

:rotfl: I wish we could be there by noon ... unfortunately those of us flying from Western Canada take a bit longer to get there ... even for a flight at 6 am we wouldn't arrive until 4 pm ...

Hi Cdn Friends of Pooh :) I think I remember you posting that you are fairly close to my "neck of the woods"... and you fly out of EDMTN airport... Do you think you guys would be up to the red eye flight? Our family is trying it this Sept. and we are flying from EDM at 1:05 am to Toronto, we arrive in TO around 6:55 am and then onto Orlando flight at 10:00 am... we arrive in Orlando around 12:55 pm, just after lunch time. As you said, other flights seem to get in later in the evening, which is why we are going this route this time. We flew United last year, while the times where pretty good, we did not enjoy the service or the flight as much as we like AC.

I'm not sure what airport you are flying out of but I'd consider (if they have one) staying the night before you go in an airport hotel.

We did this at the Toronto Pearson airport in 2005. They have a nice Sheraton right in the airport itself. Wow was it ever convenient and took a lot of worry out of the picture. We didn't have to get up at 3am and drive 2 hours to the airport. We took our time the day before and had fun and relaxed before we went. This hotel had airport views so our DS could see all the planes take off and land (without any sound). That was neat.

Yep, we're in St. Albert :thumbsup2

We'd never consider that flight as we like the convenience of going through US customs in Edmonton rather than having to get our luggage in Toronto and then go through US customs there and recheck our luggage - that's just too much work :sad2:

I agree, clearing US customs in Edmonton was one thing that was nice... but we have close to a 3 hr break before leaving TO, so I think we will be ok with time to do the change over... never tried it yet, but hubby is a seasoned traveler (having been all over the world with the military)... so he's assured us that he is fine with the customs procedure as long as he is guaranteed a AC flight the whole way ;) Ok, no problem ...he can deal with that end of the trip, and I will stick to what I enjoy most... the planning :lovestruc LOL
By the way... I :lovestruc St. Albert, beautiful city... I actually work there, and I wish we could have afforded a house there but we where posted back to Edmonton in 2006... the summer where the markets were skyrocketing. We had to settle for "close to St. Albert, but affordable" :)

You could try a red-eye into an American city (Chicago, for example - not that I have any idea if YEG-ORD red eyes exist). As long as you connect in the US, you'd still do customs at YEG (I generally try for US, rather than Canadian, connecting cities).
